Disney world Florida

I remember a waiter in TGI Fridays following me out the door one day to ask why i hadnt left a big enough tip

From what ive heard its getting worse as well what your expected to tip

Sat in a normal bar for a few hours in San Francisco, got talking to the Irish lass who was serving us about why the bar man wouldn’t serve us at the bar.
She didn’t work there !
Came in to cover shifts given to her by the manager unofficially, worked for tips and gave a percentage to the barman.
Very common for the “right sort of illegal immigrant” in high tourist areas.

Amazing holiday that I used to just accept was expensive, but this time I felt they were out to fleece us.
Having to pay $5 for a locker for your bag so that you can go on a ride, passing through a metal detector to ensure you have done so. Then queue is that long you go back to the locker afterwards and have to pay extra to open the locker.
Tipping gone up from 15% to ‘18-22% recommended’
A 4 person cabana at volcano bay was $850 but you did get complimentary bottled water.
Did Discovery cove Which was expensive but class, then they wanted $250 to send the digital file to us if the photos.

18-22% is nonsense, don’t tip that much.

15% for good service is the norm everywhere else I’ve been in the states.

Some of the machines now include 25% as an option! Chancing their arm with 18-22% and hoping people will just pay it.

The bit I can never get is how the same service from the same place requires twice as much payment (tip) if I get something twice as expensive on the menu. Like why do I tip $8 for a massive steak, but only $4 for a burger? Its the same person bringing it to the same table.

Tip as a % makes very little sense to me.

This, when we had the full dining plan the tips were astronomical because I was (naturally) ordering the most expensive thing on the menu.

I agree, I do always tip but all of the Americans I know don’t follow a set % as standard.

Bring lots of money. I’m here now and can’t believe how much everything is compared to pre pandemic.
You can manage without genie+ but you need to get up early and take advantage of the early entry.
You almost need to go onto a 2 sleep pattern. Up early, then back to hotel for a swim and nap. Then back to parks on an evening and stay as late as you can.
Probably my idea off hell might put off having kids

I'm off early next year, it'll be the first and last time as its costing an arm and a leg.....
I'm only going for the Star Wars stuff
The Star Wars stuff is great. I'm not sure I'll ever be back now, they're just taking the piss with charging extra for everything. Had a month there just before covid when everything went up and it won't be the same now.

When we had the full dining plan we racked up loads of credit as we were sharing lunches (couldn’t possibly eat one of those and a big dinner) so on our last night we went to the expensive steak restaurant in Disney Springs which was a double points one. The waiter’s eyes lit up when he saw the amount of credits we had to use and was suggesting all sorts of extras, including a whole lobster between us. All he was doing was trying to line his own pockets whilst making it look like he was majorly helpful. I don’t remember tipping him the recommended percentage, didn’t think it was worth financing his kids’ college bills for the month

Tipping on a meal plan was a bit of a piss take too. When we were eating at the premium places, the bill was about £300. There was no way I was giving them an £60 tip like.

We’re booking for 2024 when the bairns a little older.

We’ve been twice together 2007 and 2010. Exchange rate made all the difference like.

I'm trying to think what I think is a reasonable amount per person, but I'm struggling to put a number on it. Guess that's why people default to a %?
Beers used to be $1 tip each, guess that's more like 2 now?

Yeah heard a few report of that, It'll be first and only time for me.

I was thinking it was a dollar 20 years ago, so maybe more now.

I don't mind tipping if I've paid for a meal, but I didn't pay £300 for the meal (included on dining plan) so I don't like tipping on £300. I would just eat somewhere cheaper instead.
