Didn't see that coming.

Didn’t see it coming? Playing a team with loads of 6ft + players and we’ve got barely any. Saw it coming all week long. And I don’t blame TM or the players either. It’s circumstances.

There is a reason why they finished third, why they were unbeaten for a long period and why they don't concede many. Not pretty but very organised and hard to break down. I feel we just lacked a bit of guile and 6 inches on each player!!

No we weren’t we were beaten yes

He gave them a free kick ffs !!!
It was for the pull prior to the guy cutting inside & engaging with Neil, correct decision for me. He called what saw, albeit he was a bit inconsistent I didn’t think the ref was horrendous.

Although the tackle on Neil should have been punished.

Did not see us buckling at all like we did first half. Expected a whole lot more all round tonight. Picked the worst time possible to put in a performance like that. Attacking players very dissapointing. Gutted.
Tbh mate it was predicted pretty well over the last couple of days. We simply ran out of steam and the injuries eventually caught up with us.

He showed how PL refs are completely reliant on VAR. missed a pen and a sending off

I don't think we buckled; we tried to play our game and they really limited us.

Maybe we took too much out of the ball at times, tried to be too precise, but that's the way we play.

It was set-pieces that killed us.

Buckling?

We were overwhelmed by better tactics, taller players, sheer pressing and extreme physicality.
It was inevitable at some point. We have led a magic existence for the last 10 games or so, It was bound to end at some point. Better at Luton than at Wembley IMO.

Proud as punch of these lads despite the result. It was just a game too far for us, unfortunately.

They've had a schooling from the big kids tonight. For some of those lads it will be thier first real taste of bitter disappointment but they'll be stronger and wiser for it.

No shame in defeat. That's football.

Going to be a long 3 months til it all starts again. 😔

You didn’t see that coming? Did you wake up a new person this morning and pick Sunderland to support at random? Tonight was a predictable as this club gets.
No.
I'll ask again, in what way? What did the players do to show that they had "buckled"?
Not deal with the situations as good as they did on Saturday at home.

Yes, buckling. Didn't see us performing as bad as that first 45.

Sometime you just have to accept your opponent is better than you. The league table and tonight shows they are. Yes they're not great to watch but I doubt they care about that tonight
The result might show they were better on the night and over the season but I wonder if they would have done either if both sides could have fielded their strongest teams, never mind, my expectations have been wildly exceeded for the season, both league position-wise and entertainment-wise. FTM

They basically got us by the throat and pinned us against the wall. By the time Roberts was pushed forward he was knackered. Even just having Batth fit tonight would have made a difference imo.

Ridiculous playing wing backs tonight. Back 4 all day long. Roberts and Clarke would have gave them something to think about being further up the pitch.

If there was a reason they didn't deal with things as well as on Saturday it's because they were pressured into it by a very well drilled and physical Luton team. Not because they buckled, choked, shit themselves or any clichéd nonsense like that.

It's football, sometimes one team just plays better than the other.
