Did we sack Bruce too early?

It all went downhill from the January onwards. In his final 27 games from then on we mustered 21 points, which over 38 games would equate to a pathetic 29 points and relegation.

O'Neill got 27 from his last 27

Not a rhetorical question, I honestly cannot remember

I know we were having bad runs, but were we at extreme relegation risk?

Would he have been sacked if MON wasn't around?

.. no.. I was one of the last to turn. I do think he was unlucky how things panned, but I have to say it defiantly had reached that time..

No, I dithered for a bit and so probably gave him more time than some, but that Wigan game made my mind up completely that it was time for him to go

I wasnt bothered by his magness at all.
I just thought he was a whinger with a whinging family who WERE obsessed with his magness, when it was pointed out that there was a statue of a REAL mag outside the SOL theyd reluctantly shut the fuck up. Some dubious transfer gannins on nivver helped.
I wanted him sacked after his revolutionary 4-6-0 formation at Brighton, I know realise I may have been harsh at the time because he was up against one of the greatest footballing minds of all time in Poyet.

He is one of the boys! BRUCIE!! thought he was ok for a while then began to lose confidence in him and his constant bullshit

I thought MON actually did well for us considering the dreadful squad he inherited.

Would it really have made any difference in the long-term if we'd been 14th with one point less, than 10th? It was the future which mattered and even then it was all falling apart.

But that's like saying anything and everything we do doesn't matter in the long-run? Finishing 10th made the club a few million more than 14th, and myself and other supporters gained a large amount of satisfaction for finishing in the top half for the first time in over a decade and 3rd time in 50 years.

:) fuckin hell man, we were awful at the end of his reign. again I suppose, some good players were sold under his control which might have mad a difference, Bent, Gyan etc

I've been asking myself this same question a lot recently, i'd say it was the right time to sack him. He'd had his chance and fucked it.

What matters to me is getting better, a point or two's difference and the resulting league position doesn't matter to me. But aye, the bit of extra money from the league position matters.

i think he was sacked at the perfect time but he was still screwed over by the sales of bent and in particular gyan who was sold after the window had closed so he couldn't be replaced, we missed Henderson engine with Gardner not capable of covering as much ground either.

Gyan was away regardless $$$$ but Henderson didn't push for a move, we peddled him and used the cash to sign loads of squad players and a "prospect" in Wickham. That was the season we should've kept Henderson and added players like Johnson & Fletcher. Fair enough we may still have needed a few loans signings. Eventually 2/3 quality signing a season/window(if poss) and maybe we'd be pushing top 8. We can't just keep signing squad players(maybe top 4 squad players) and expect to improve.

I think he played the best football and bought the best players of the last 4 or so managers but his position had become untenable unfortunately. If he wasn't a Geordie he may well have got through it

Thought we'd cracked it with him til we sold Bent and it all went to shite.

I still quite like the bloke, to be honest.
