Did Peter Reid get it wrong after 1999 promotion..

Have to strengthen when you're doing well. We kinda rode the crest of a wave for a while and let things get stale with the squad. Some poor transfer market dealings didn't help.
The ground extension and Bob not being able to compete in the transfer market / get additional investment in, blew it

While I wonder what could have been if we kept ahold of Bridges, Clark and Johnson the real mistake was summer of 2001.

Let Hutchison and Rae go without a suitable replacement for either and tried to replace quinny on the cheap instead of realizing how crucial he was to our play and getting in a top draw international.

Are you pissed. The thread is about where Reid went wrong and your response is does it matter, we had a great time

Next thread about when we lose, and people ask why, we can all say does it matter, we won a different game
I’m not pissed and don’t know why I am giving you the time. Overall Peter Reid dragged our club out of the shyte and nearly yes nearly got it right. That’s what he should be remembered for, the fantastic football his teams produced and for the pride he gave to the supporters.
He very nearly gave us success. Give him credit for that, I do and so do my friends and family.
That far outweighs his negatives. Do you comprehend ?
As for you, you are back on ignore, I’ve wasted enough time on you.

well, the way i see it, if we had this sort of chat within the club when we have gone wrong, maybe we wouldn't be sitting league one now. i think Kieron brady mentioned something similar a year or two ago.
It doesn't matter mate. We had some great times. So what happened after is irrelevant. Apparently.

But I agreed with all that. And I'm sure all the other posters who have answered the question posed by the OP do too. But the thread is asking where he then went wrong.

Wonder if the stories surrounding the departures of Makin and Summerbee were true. Bridges and Johnston contract issues, Laslandes managers office discussion etc, Reid could maybe have handled a lot of things better.
Makin and Summerbee, that the story with the Melanie Sykes.

Must have been a great time to be following the club though. Just moved to a state of the art stadium and the team seemed to have a real identity from what I've seen and would give anyone a game. Seemed to be a great atmosphere with a sea of red and white, my first game was in 97/98 at the SOL and that's all i remember. Such a far cry to what it is now sadly

Imagine getting shot of those two cos they (possibly) got a shot off with her.

I think it was actually because they gave a bit back to Reid at half time. Might have been away to Arsenal.

The following two years with back to back 7th place top flight finishes says no to a lot of fans. But why did it go wrong after that.
Stubborn. Had the opportunity to have kept Bridges, Johnston, Clark, & Hutchinson at various points, but chose to play / sign Dichio, Kilbane, Ball & Laslandes instead. Also built a team around Quinny who was at the end of his career rather than around Bridges who was at the start - and then never found a replacement when the big lad was finished.

It was, i felt like europe was a real possibility and the chance of a trophy like the FA cup wasn't that far away, and then, that 3rd season, it just didn't click and reid didn't adapt, a year later we were down, it was crushing at the time to be honest

It all started to go haywire on Boxing Day 1999 when Everton tore us apart at Goodison Park,
Following season we were almost top at Christmas and finished 7th.

Mind, I was gutted having wasted my Boxing Day to watch that shite.
The mags will find that out .

Believe me.
Unlikely. They didn't struggle at the time when we were. Suppose it depends on your definition of top quality.
