Let it sink that I never said any of those who’ve been brought in are good enough for the first teamSorry but that last point is not right…the much revered recruitment team have not brought a striker anywhere close to he being good enough for the first team since Ross Stewart was bought. Just let that sink in.
No ex Premiership striker, no one from a lesser championship, first or second division team. How much did Stewart cost? … pennies in real terms.
Wyke left in the summer of 2021, at which point we had one striker. They have had 2.5 years or 5 transfer windows to find and develop the solution. They failed it is as simple as that
Dack was a TM man, experienced, a top wage earner, poor signing.Sorry but that last point is not right…the much revered recruitment team have not brought a striker anywhere close to he being good enough for the first team since Ross Stewart was bought. Just let that sink in.

Not as easy against teams that sit backA few balls into the channels, or over the top to run onto,or even to feet would be a start.

And because there’s loads of Ross Stewart’s sat around waiting for Sunderland to sign them of course.
Ex-prem proven strikers cost money in transfer fees and wages the same for lesser championship teams and again none of these fit the model.
This is a general observation but I think some people think the recruitment team have sat twiddling their thumbs when it comes signing a striker.
Disagree. I think Rusyn will make it and look good but we will see.
I suspect you have forgotten where he has come from.No doubt they tried but failed
I suspect you have forgot how old he is already
No it was more the fact his newly found tactics didn’t suit a single striker as it was a tactic we used when we didn’t have one and his insistence on having the full backs go into midfield rather than overlapI was under the impression, and probably wrongly, that speakman was making mowbray play one of the 4 strikers the club had invested in. As soon as we stopped playing dack and or jobe up front to accommodate a striker the shape and conversion rate for goals disappeared and the bad run began.
Then there were other odd selections like Defenders in midfield. So I was pleasantly surprised to see the team and shape yesterday with jobe up front. Suprise suprise we played well and looked better.
So why did tony keep rotating strikers if he didn't have to - was he prepared to sacrifice points and his job to make a point that the strikers weren't good enough?
Dodds has two/three games. He’s been told your only job is to win them. The next guy will have the brief to develop players. The next guy can’t have four duds sitting on the bench. So he’ll have to play them otherwise it’s dead wood and against the recruitment model. Mowbray was in the same position.I also wondered about this. If he wasn’t happy with the strikers that were brought in, why did he simply not play them?
Dodds said it himself that he had total control over team selection.
By playing them, you could say Mowbray forced his own downfall.
Exactly and that’s allowed unfortunately. I’m no Speakman apologist but he’s given a tough time on here (which is easy to do) without a lot of substance to the ins and outs of what goes on.No doubt they tried but failed

You've lost the plot over losing an average championship manager and have resorted to spouting insults and shite the last few days to anyone who disagrees with you.
Rusyn especially was making clever runs in the box and especially to the near post but we mostly play too slowly to take advantage of this as we just don't adapt the way we play to the different players who play up front. We expect all the players we play up front to drop in and play as a pivot, a tactic we used well last year with Gelhardt but not moved on from this season but expect different players to play that role. The strikers we have this year are not the same player that Gelhardt was and imo is the reason that Jobe has worked best in that role.
We'll see what these players look like under a new manager and new tactics.

That was because the team was specifically set up to accomodate a striker, or even 2, as at the time (or most of it) we still had the lad Simms from Everton. Once Stewart got injured and Simms went back we set up for inverted wingers and a withdrawn forward (Amad), who played most of his football via Roberts right wing.Ross Stewart didn’t struggle
I disagree with you on this totally tbh and feel the tactics are as much at fault as the strikers. When I watched Rusyn, he made some good runs and had good work rate. He looks like he could be a good player for us this season when we play to his strengths more often and when settles in the area and in the squad.Running where defenders are happy for you to run is easy.
The team is set up to play a certain way, he has to adjust his game or doesn’t play. I think he has been a mistake.
Maybe along side someone who does understand the role he might add something.
Truth is Ross Stewart played the role perfect he had all the attributes we need in a striker and I don’t see any other t them in Rusyn. I do see something in Mayenda though.
I don’t think he gets a hard time at all, people recognise his successes but hold him to account for his failures.
The recruitment team have simply failed in the last two windows imo. Before that they were unbelievably good for 3 windows. That view stands up to scrutiny and I for one want to see us revert to our strategy of those 3 windows or will never have the replacements we need should we sell key players.
At this moment we could sell a full back to a Prem club and possibly a number 10. Can’t see where the depth is after that
Probably because none of them have suggested they’re good enough to have a game plan tailored to them. That was because the team was specifically set up to accomodate a striker, or even 2, as at the time (or most of it) we still had the lad Simms from Everton. Even though we signed multiple forwards during the summer, Mowbray did not adapt to this (apart from the odd occasion in friendlies) and continued to play the same way using the wingers for everything (and as we have found out, they have been sussed).
The point (and this is only my opinion), is that Stewart or anybody else playing striker would struggle to score in this set up as they are not receiving enough of the ball either in crosses or in behind from the midfield.
we will just have to differ over this.Probably because none of them have suggested they’re good enough to have a game plan tailored to them.
We’ll see in the coming months. Hopefully they find a waywe will just have to differ over this.

Fuck me, you are going to use the few chances we have created for forwards this season as some kind of evidence. We barely create one a game for strikes who are low in confidence in front of goal and under lots of pressure. Hardly the situation to get them playing well imo.
