Did Mowbray self Sabotage to make a point?

Surely it’s obvious he wasn’t being told to play a striker as Dodds didn’t yesterday.

Mowbrays never had a plan B and the fact he kept rotating on the hope something would click must prove that.

Mowbray was desperate for a decent striker to play up front, he also wanted an experienced head in midfield. If it wasn't for Mowbray we wouldn't have Pritchard now as the club wanted to sell him and had a few deals lined up but Mowbray stepped in to tell them how important he is not just on the pitch but also on the training ground for the young kids we've got

He’s always got teams playing lovely football but never been able to organise a defence or take that step of playing beautiful and effective football.
I’ll always be a fan and had fate been kinder with injury he’d probably have scraped us through the play offs last season but he was never a long term answer.
Obviously he’s got a valid point regarding centre forwards and recruitment but he did have other options player wise and didn’t take them or dropped them immediately, in contrast to his method with youngsters in other positions.

I was under the impression, and probably wrongly, that speakman was making mowbray play one of the 4 strikers the club had invested in. As soon as we stopped playing dack and or jobe up front to accommodate a striker the shape and conversion rate for goals disappeared and the bad run began.
Then there were other odd selections like Defenders in midfield. So I was pleasantly surprised to see the team and shape yesterday with jobe up front. Suprise suprise we played well and looked better.

So why did tony keep rotating strikers if he didn't have to - was he prepared to sacrifice points and his job to make a point that the strikers weren't good enough?

It's our managers job to give experience and help coach our young players. Speakman wasn't telling Mowbray who to pick. But he was presumably telling him he wasn't doing his job by ignoring them.

Presumably dodds has different expectations of him. I was very irritated at the team picked. I always hate playing players out of position

Did Mowbray sabotage himself? Well he certainly destroyed Hemirs preseason confidence. He played a tactic that doesn't help a striker do well and then threw up his hands and complained about the strikers. He gave only burstow an actual run of games (potentially rusyn would have got one) to play there way into how the team operates. And often played two kids as the am-cf combo rather than dack or Pritchard supporting a young striker making it easier for them.

Mowbray has been a petulant child all season and I'd have fired him close season after he played Gooch at centre back and then failed to get promoted last year. He ruined any confidence Hemir had. He seemingly ruined ekwahs form by publicly criticising him (he hasn't had a good game since that week where he was excellent and Mowbray still criticised his work ethic after the match) and I don't get why people on this board are desperate for the strikers to fail.

He was probably at the Riverside.

'Loves the club'

His words, not mine. He had other issues at home the week leading up to his sacking which put further strain on his relationship with Speakman. Mowbray needed to sort things out at home and Speakman was demanding he came into the club on the Thursday after the Huddersfield defeat.
They really never liked each other so his sacking was a matter of when rather than if. I've said it a few times but rightly or wrongly Mowbray can't stand either Speakman or Kyril.

He could have tried two up front but didn't , he could have tried a back three but didn't, in recent weeks he's had Pritchard and Dack sat on the bench and just about every time one or both came on they changed the game. He stuck to a plan that no longer worked and paid the price.

I think he'd ran out of ideas on the pitch, then off it he was all about self preservation in his post match pressers

I'm not arguing Mowbray wasn't up to the job if we want to go up and that he didn't make shite decisions at times. I just pointed out Mowbray wanted a decent one and wanted to play one

a little bit but he was also hoping one looked remotely like a striker.4 strikers that rolled together wouldnt even amount to a Danny Dichio a 4th choice in Reidys days.Like you I was pleased Jobe played up front.
