Di Canio - I was right to ban ketchup

Get rid of the players who weren't willing to play or put any sort of effort in, the manager went the players stayed and we've been in trouble ever since.

We were in trouble before di Canio came in, it's got nothing to do with the players turning against him why we eventually got relegated. You can't just rewrite history to form an argument.

Just out of interest, why is it do you think that the players turned against di Canio? Why has he not found a managerial job since?

Politics marra and he's not cut out for managing big egos. The days of tyrant managers are long gone.

The issue with Di Canio for a fair few on here, though, is that they completely ignore the results he got.

Save for two wins he was shocking and we looked very very poor. I don't think anyone can find fault with him identifying a lack of professionalism at the club, but he was utterly bereft when it came to fixing it.
Anyone who saw the abject performance at Palace, a team on its knees, so devoid of confidence, who were made to look like Brazil by PdC's team should not be able to defend his ability as a manager. Then there's Villa away, Fulham at home, I think you get the picture.

My opinion is the players had a strict regime with keane then under bruce and o'neill had it a bit more relaxed especially under o'neill who at times wasn't even taking training. Once di canio took over and demanded some professionalism i.e turn up for training on time, not spend nights partying, the players who had a pretty cushy number up until then decided sod that he needs to go and stopped working for him until they got their own way.
There's so much money involved in football, clubs are probably scared of taking a risk after reading what are probably exaggerated stories about him. I honestly think a club like sheff wed should take a gamble on him and back him and they'd reap the rewards.

There is a way of getting people to buy in to your methods even if they dont agree with you and Di Canio just doesnt do subtleties it his his way or the highway. He is not cut out for management and that he hasnt picked a job up since tells its own story. It is all about him too and the way people have bought into this 'rotten core' nonsense is embarrassing i wouldnt believe a word he says. After the 6-1 at Villa i would have chased him at the end of the season.

It's always a team effort poor management poor manager so maybe your wrong....it's a Team effort mate!! Someone in the team always gets fired

Respect peoples opinions of Paolo as a manager but to say he picked those players is unfair.

Do people actually believe shite like this? We had one point from six games. If they hadn't gone and complained, di Canio would have stayed in charge and we'd have gone down.

Had them sussed though, yeah nice one.

I feel he gets too much criticism for the league start tbh. It was one point from 5 league games, not 6. The first defeat (Fulham at home) was an absolute robbery, we played well and they scored with their only touch in our box all game. Southampton away we were fairly poor but very unlucky not to win with them equalizing late on. Palace away was disappointing but was the kind of game we often lose, we were well in it until the sending off. We gave arsenal a game at home and a loss was hardly unexpected. Then there was West Brom which was shite.

Not saying it was great but West Brom was the only dreadful performance, having helped keep us up the year before I don't think the results warranted such an early sacking.

I wouldn't be so sure tbh.

A lot of the best managers, Clough/Ferguson/Shankly, etc were borderline crackers.
I agree with this. But he just couldn't tone it down. The best ones can. Very rarely would they call players out in the press. PDC did it every time some fucker planted a mic in his mush. I remember thinking, right you have them playing for you, you have the results to save us. Just shut up now, but the spurs press conference was the end for him. I agree with most of what he said, but I m not a millionaire footballer who carry make up bags and wear fuck off git big head phones. The dirty knees will go down in folk law. I went to a foundation dinner the following season and up until that I loved him. I left that and both me and my pal looked at each other and said he needs to go. He's f***ing mental
