Course I can tell the difference, thread wasnt about playing instruments. My point as you well know is that the Smiths songs wouldnt have been the same without the tunes of Marr so when comparing the song writing exploits of both Weller and Mozza its unfair cos the Smiths songs would have sounded completely different if Mozza had wrote the music

Hence the point I made earlier, Weller has done all it himself where as Morrissey had Marr writing the music for him when in the Smiths

Both superb songwriters for me but for the reasons I have gave above Weller is better imo

I never asked who was a better song writer though, I asked which records you prefer.

f***ing Sam Cooke all day long.

but between the two it has to be morrissey.

The Jam
The Smiths
Moz solo
Weller solo
Style Council

In that order.

Gannin to see Moz at Hawick soon, should be canny.

Me fourteenth time I've seen him.:cool:

Just wondering what the Smiths would have sounded like with Marr writing the music

Like of Wild Wood and Stanley Road were up there with some of his best Jam work imo

Latest couple of offering are also excellent as well

All credibility is lost for anybody calling Wild Wood, Stanley Road, Studio 150 and 22 Dreams "abysmal".

Fair enough if it's not your cup of tea, as Morissey (sp) isn't mine...but "abysmal"!

'Wild Wood' is the sound of a man's flame going out and 'You Do Something To Me' sounds like a Moody Blues pastiche.

Dont see how the two can be compared, them solo albums were mellow as fuck but The Jam was far from that.

Not sure what you are on about with your first point with JM like.
