Describing 90s LAD culture to todays kids?

Everyone was out by then and cracking on
It's just gave a few " men behaving badly " tyres to go large . My social situation didn't change a jot
Most cultures died out with the rise of internet and mobile phones / social Media … IMO

Nowt of note since 😃
In other words marketing suddenly had no power on us and people just crack on . Did we really need a tag to crack on ?

At no point during my part in the Brit Pop wars did I experience homophobia towards gay friends or colleagues (at gigs or clubs). It did feel like a more inclusive time but unfortunately in the end the misogyny was rampant. Shame really because in the beginning it was great to have a mix of genders at gigs, even LG was described as being androgynes.
Unfortunately the reality for minority groups and women was probably something quite different to how I viewed it at the time and recall it now.
Is it really any different nowadays? I would think all that has changed is that these groups feel more able to call out unacceptable behaviour but sadly I don't really see any progress in terms of behaviours.
No homophobia in the 90s? Unless you spent them in Brighton or the West Village, I find that extraordinary. Even 10 years ago gay panic jokes were ubiquitous in mainstream comedies and gay people were routinely "othered" across the culture. And it was miles worse 30 years ago.

Your contemporaries or people in the public domain? Iirc Zoe Ball has published some of her experiences.
I was aware that some non-gay people would frequent gay clubs because of the music scene.

There was an urban myth at one time that groups of straight lads trying to gain entrance to a gay club had to prove their sexuality by snogging male bouncers.

I was more partial to the indie club scene. ;)
The bouncers started that rumour. You fell for it didn’t you

I agree that there doesn't seem to be one dominant culture since really, but I'm not so sure they totally died out.

For the last 20 years, because of the rise of the internet, there are so many more subcultures than previous generations. I think cultures tend to explode with the music and fashion scenes but we haven't had one huge dominant culture because of the way a lot of music genres have evolved into many subgenres/subcultures. Nowadays people who like that music can connect faster around the world, and music evolves quicker.

I think people have the same love of music/fashion etc, but just split into so many different and evolving subcultures nowadays, that it's much harder for something like the punk explosion to happen again.

Well son, it was a celebration of birds, drinking, music, drugs, football and fashion.

That sounds like a load of toxic masculinity father. What if you were a woman and you wanted to join in?

You were rebranded as a Ladette son.

But what about the LBQT+ community? What if you were gender fluid?

Errrr we didn’t have those son.
……..
I don’t think it’s terribly relatable to wokies of Gen Z.
Just tell them it was as tame as fuck compared to the 70's and 80's.

Kids don’t have to physically go out to meet their mates , all social media on phones , made massive difference IMO

I’m so relieved that I’m too old to give a shit.

Sometimes literally, but that’s another thread on the health forum.

Great times, suppose the best way to describe it would be going out, getting pissed/off your nut, going to the footy/away games, no sleep, spending your wages on clothes, gear and going out, clubbing, mad fortnights in Ibiza, copping off with someone most weeks etc. The worst thing about it was some of the shit groups it threw up from the Britpop era. Glad I'm not young now though, definitely couldn't hack some of the things we did back then like having about 5 hours kip in two weeks

Just mentioned yesterday, the Soccer AM Soccerette. Wouldn’t even get past the idea stage these days.
