Describing 90s LAD culture to todays kids?

Well son, it was a celebration of birds, drinking, music, drugs, football and fashion.

That sounds like a load of toxic masculinity father. What if you were a woman and you wanted to join in?

You were rebranded as a Ladette son.

But what about the LBQT+ community? What if you were gender fluid?

Errrr we didn’t have those son.
……..
I don’t think it’s terribly relatable to wokies of Gen Z.

No it wasn’t

You didn’t know any, or weren’t aware of gay people in the 1990s?

LOL! Errr .. Dad, haven't you just described your chaotic lifestyle?

(Usual at halftime, cheers. :D)

Aye. Sounds great except loads of those ladettes have spoken not too fondly of that era.
Your contemporaries or people in the public domain? Iirc Zoe Ball has published some of her experiences.
90s club music was literally produced for the gay scene, all the hi-nrg stuff etc
I was aware that some non-gay people would frequent gay clubs because of the music scene.

There was an urban myth at one time that groups of straight lads trying to gain entrance to a gay club had to prove their sexuality by snogging male bouncers.

I was more partial to the indie club scene. ;)

I’d love to do it all again.

Public domain. Louise Wener has discussed it in several interviews as well.

No gay people in the 90’s? Were you even there?

It was in my experience. Loaded magazine was pretty much the bible of that era and those were the things it featured more than owt else.
Lush's Miki Berenyi described it as a built in excuse for dickhead macho behaviour iirc.
I’d say that pretty much describes it.
"birds, drinking, music, drugs, football and fashion"

So just like the 70s and 80s then.
Yes but I’m talking specifically about the 90s version.

Of course, but LAD was very much a straight, white, male thing. I’m not talking about the 90s as an era, just that subset.

At no point during my part in the Brit Pop wars did I experience homophobia towards gay friends or colleagues (at gigs or clubs). It did feel like a more inclusive time but unfortunately in the end the misogyny was rampant. Shame really because in the beginning it was great to have a mix of genders at gigs, even LG was described as being androgynes.
Unfortunately the reality for minority groups and women was probably something quite different to how I viewed it at the time and recall it now.
Is it really any different nowadays? I would think all that has changed is that these groups feel more able to call out unacceptable behaviour but sadly I don't really see any progress in terms of behaviours.

Most cultures died out with the rise of internet and mobile phones / social Media … IMO
60s
70s
80s
90s
00s
Nowt of note since 😃
