Derby County in administration

A bloke on the Guardian podcast, football finance expert Kieran Maguire, comparing Derby to Wigan aka administration
Wigan own they own ground Derby don't
Derby owe 20m to the HRMC, this debt his to be paid in full
Wigan own a couple of training grounds, Derby have no assets they can readily liquidiate
Wigan went into administration while the transfer window was open, so they could sell players. Deby are over 3 months away from a transfer window
Most Derby players are on short term deals, hence no sell on.
Derby's wage bill hasn't been released but the last time it was in 2019 in whic 4m per month
Current debts estimated at 60m

Recken's Derby's chance of coming out of administration @ 50:50
Isn't Morris owed £100m too? Be interesting to see if he writes that off (though I think 25% of that is included in the £60m)

Very hard to tell because they haven't filed their 2019 accounts, let alone 2020. At that point they appeared to own the parent company around £50m (and this was after the "sale" of Pride Park.

The MSD charge reveals that the freehold of Pride Park is held by Gellaw 203 Ltd, which is actually DCFC's ultimate holding company, and is 100% owned by Morris. It's not clear whether or not that is in administration, but if not, it's pretty much certain that MSD will do it.

So the parent company owns Pride Park, if they haven't foldered, my guess is they'll rent it back to any potenial new owners.
All sounds extremely shady

MSD will put their own administrators in (if Morris hasn't done it) as the stadium is their primary security. Any potential owner with an ounce of sense will look to buy the ultimate parent, as that brings both the ground and the club.

Not every club has a fanbase of Portsmouth's size, though.

Say a club like Bristol Rovers went into admin - not a particularly wealthy part of the world, and a relatively small fanbase which makes it very difficult for them to get a group of fans to buy the club. You'd just end up with clubs going bust, rather than being saved as no prospective owner would touch them.

Points deduction - which in most cases leads to relegation anyway - is more than enough.

If the Wigan owner has the funds to spend on players, then more power to them

Bristol is one of the poshest parts of the country man! Haha

I expect them to win because they're still a much better side. It doesn't change the fact that Rooney has done magnificent in very challenging circumstances.
Prior to tonight there record was
played 15, won 3, drawn 8, lost 4.
With a squad that cost them Premiership fees and wages to play in the Championship (hence the administration).
If they had the 12 points back they would still be bottom 6.

Reading are about to take a 9 point deduction, which will help the other down the bottom a little

They were struggling to field a side at the start of the season and most of those players have left.

The one good thing about this shit season is how Rooney's conducted himself (within the club anyway ;)) getting 100% from a very poor squad but they just arent good enough, with no chance of strengthening and more points deducted soon we're nailed on to go down

You can argue if he is doing a good job or not but it isn’t a squad full of premier league fees and wages. It’s basically a bunch of frees on limited wages. The centre half’s last night must be 36/38 year old

Obviously haven’t seen their squad have you? It’s a bunch of frees and kids. I can’t stand Rooney but he’s doing an exceptional job at the moment in all fairness to him. If they don’t get docked anymore points I could see them just about staying up. Another deduction would kill them off mind

I stand corrected.
