Went to the doctor 2 weeks back due to a lack of sleep and mental fog, thought it was related to thyroid issues. He asks how my mood is/was and I pretty much broke down. 2 weeks later, been back to see him and been prescribed Sertraline. I've probably been hiding from it for 3 - 4 years but anxiety cripples me, probably kidded myself being down was just the way I was wired. Got a pretty senior job and that doesn't help I suppose. I'm nervous about taking medicine but anything it throws at me has to be better than being a bag of nerves, wide awake at 3 in the morning, regularly forgetting people's names at work and being a sad, irritable dad...
Just read through dozens of pages here, some very brave and inspiring folk....

I just broke down in tears in front of my manager at work. Even now I’m struggling to keep it together. I don’t think I’m in a very good place right now and not entirely sure what to do.
Have you got a phone ring someone like the samaratins I found councilling to be very very helpful its just finding the right counciler for you marra.I just broke down in tears in front of my manager at work. Doctor has upped my Sertraline dose for SA from 50mg to 100mg. Felt great the first couple of days but the last couple my anxiety has been horrific. Anyone else had that experience with it?
I'm on 50mg citalopram. We are here for you mate. Ginger John has a marvellous effect on me anyway. Don't hide it - just take it easy.
I have been on 100 for a long time and never had that happen. Tell your Dr.
Take a deep breath! Concentrate on your breathing. Really focus on breathing in and out and how the air feels going in and out of your body. It slows your heart and everything down and stops any "fight or flight" response.
Do you think you'll be ok getting home? If you can manage it, try and get yourself home.
I'm just about to cook our tea, but apart from that I'm only watching football this evening. PM me if you want to talk. No pressure though - you have to do what feels best for you.
Look after yourself mate xx

I broke down in tears in front of my manager about 3 months ago as she is a great listener and understands me.

Thanks for the advice. I made it home - thankfully my wife was due to pick me up anyway. It’s happened twice in the last month now. Trying to make an appointment with the psychiatric service as soon as possible. Just feels like I’m taking one hit after another at the minute and I have no idea of the way out.

Did you increase from 50 to 100? If so did you not have any temporary increase in symptoms at all? I know when you start Sertraline it can make your anxiety a lot worse before it gets better so just wondering if it’s the same principle when you up the dose. Frustrating like cause i’d had some of my best days in years prior to these past couple.
There will be more accessible things on the net regarding it. It's interesting though how the breath related system (ventral vegal) which is tied into the affiliative (closeness seeking) system can moderate the withdrawing gut related system (dorsal vegal). Whether learning to accentuate it can improve gut health is a topic of debate but it certainly improves mood.Quick skim read and that looks interesting. I'll give it a proper read when I'm not tired. Thanks xx
Pleased you are home safely xx
There will be a way with baby steps. You can't see it yet, but you will find it in time. Try and relax tonight if you can and get some sleep. Things might look a bit better with a fresh head on in the morning.
I saw a therapist for a while who'd worked in the NHS for 30 years. He was really into this sort of purely breathing thing and now rejected all the mind based therapies he'd been using before. It was interesting, but as usual no panacea. He had nothing to say beyond do this breathing and monitor your hear then things will improveThere will be more accessible things on the net regarding it.
