Dennis Cirkin

although I agree with your underlying point - can you not see why some fans would be worried: no left back at the club, gallacher deal was certain then went to shit, loads of Cirkin talk then quiet all of the sudden. Not the same coverage as varane and lukaku where there is hourly updates

for the record I think we’ll be getting him ans just need to be patient
Those hourly updates would only make us madder - they add nothing, truth be told.

I'm not worried and I'll tell you why I'm not worried: because we looked good against a team who will do ok this year, on Saturday. On the pitch, where it matters.

We are a bit threadbare in a few areas, but we will cope and it's fairly clear the recruitment team are going to sign some full-backs and a striker, bare minimum. The players they've added that we've seen - Winchester, Stewart, Evans, Doyle - are all good additions, so I trust them to get it right.

Levy will be wanting more than his pound of flesh again...will end up being an impossible deal for us!
Or maybe the lad is just getting his stuff sorted down there before making the move North which means he can get here and start playing straight away.

100% agree mate. We looked good and if the weak/thin areas are recruited with similar level players/attitudes to what we saw on Saturday then we’ll be in for a good season

The are other intangible facet to... I read that he's recently lost his father, if true you don't know how much that loss is having in him. Moving away from a club you've been with as a child and the loss of a parent at a relatively young age, moving quite away from home must be huge for him.if it were me on his shoes I wouldn't want to rush it ...would anybody

Good point.

This makes perfect sense.
I would imagine Levy will want all kinds of extras included that may make the whole deal too expensive, who knows what a sell on % might be, if it's too high then we may decide to move on to someone else. Why should we pay a fee now, spends months/years developing him and giving him experience etc then if we or he decides he wants to leave if a big offer comes in end of paying most of the transfer fee back to Spurs. I think most of that reward should be for us.
I find it increasingly bizarre that there is such an obsession with what the possible net financial return would be in two/three years time, from selling a player that we don’t actually own at the moment and how this should be a consideration in whether or not SAFC should sign him at all.

For example, using the quoted figure of £1.3m as the starting point, if Cirkin was to sign for the club and put in two years of consistently excellent performances, enhancing his reputation and becoming one of the most accomplished 21 years old left backs in Europe, let us say his transfer value increases to £13.3m, a £12m profit. Even if Daniel Levy insisted on a 66% of the profit from a future sale, this would still see SAFC make a £4m on the deal.

However, for those of us who haven’t elevated double-entry book-keeping above football as our main interest, the best thing to come out of having Cirkin would have been the aforementioned ’… two years of consistently excellent performances, … becoming the most accomplished 21 years old left backs in Europe …’, as this would likely mean that SAFC will also have been successful on the pitch during those two years and seen us rise through the leagues, back to the gravy train that is the Premier League, where the £8m that would effectively be going back to Spurs would be just an incidental drop in the ocean.

Consider what Cirkin can add to the football, rather than the balance sheet.

Has he singed then?

I could see a club like spurs inserting all kinds of sell on fees, buy back Conditions, additional fees like appearances made or more extremely international call ups into deals. Being 19 highly rated and a youth product they are not going to risk losing out too much should he really start developing

Even at this late stage any of the deal points could complicate things or worse they may be other clubs willing to pay more
I hope we specify which country the international call up is for and that add ons are dependent on which country.

With our recent history he’ll get called up for Latvia and we’ll need to pay Spurs £5M

It's one of those low risks but .... but its an old story with English players getting calls for Wales/ Scotland/ Ireland through family lineage always possible
