Dejaku

Gooch is currently better on the right than those who played there yesterday, only the foolish or those that can't get over their preconceived frustrations with Gooch can't see that. Time will tell who does and doesn't take their chances but we missed Gooch's ability to carry the ball up the field yesterday, especially once Cirkin went off.

On a side but related note the lack of pace in the supporting three was evident without him and why Dejaku was brought on, albeit he looks very raw. I don't think playing Prichard and Embleton together is a great idea, when it means Embo is often shunted wide. Hopefully we see an improvement in Dejaku over the next month otherwise a pacey wide player is key in January.

I’ve been quite surprised by how slow Embleton is actually and I think he needs to be played in the 10 with pace either side of him.

Dajaku showed little flashes of what he’s about but understandably looks short of match sharpness and was guilty of making the wrong decision a few times.

We need our inside forwards to be scoring and assisting goals. He showed yesterday that he's prepared to run at defences, he's got decent pace. he'll have a dig and will be dangerous in and around the box. He's a kid who's just come on when we had our back to the wall. He was able to stretch their defence and that relieved the pressure when we were under siege a bit in the second half.

Gooch no goals and one assist in 7 games.
McGeady 2 pens and one assist in 8 games.

We know we aren't scoring enough or killing teams off. Give this lad a chance, I think he's got bags of potential and couldn't possibly have worse stats for being involved than the two we've played all season out wide.

Thought he looked ok, not fully fit did a job. Some on here thought Winchester was shit last yr he’s now akin to the second coming, just got to give everybody a chance, write them off after a dozen games, by then we can all see who’s a footballer and who’s not, but it’s ridiculous making judgements after one game.

I think he was just overawed. There was one example when we were defending a corner and he'd stayed forward. The ball was cleared and as he ran onto it the crowd let out a big roar and it seemed to frighten the crap out of him and he took a heavy touch and the defender took it off him easily. He'll get used to it

For the opportunity presented to him I thought I looked ok. Good break of speed, can obviously handle ball and just needs some time to bed in.

I'm regards to Pritchard I don't see why people are slating him. He got in good positions and made postive contributions. If two of those attempts had gone in people would be singing his name. Theres a thin line between success and failure.

Did alright, Pritchard.

I’m not keen on him and Embleton being in the same team though as I think they’re both better in the 10 and lack the pace to play wide.

As explained above, nope. He looks half decent. I'd be surprised if his career didn't surpass the lofty heights that Gooch has reached.

Come back to this in 6 months or so and lets see. It's usually pretty easy to spot a decent footballer from a plodder.
Gooch has played at premier league level. I will be surprised if Dajaku plays at that level

I relally like Embleton and he gets about the pitch well, but he just isn't a wide player and doesn't have the impact pace for it. Playing him alongside Pritchard who seems really slow and 35 year old McGeady, who can be sprightly when trying to win space for a cross, but isn't going to break any lines over any sort of distance did leave us short of a few options and support in the final third.

All decent in their own right, just not a good balance.

Agree. Similar when Reid went through a spell of playing Quinny and Dichio together. Two good players in their own right (obviously Quinny top top class) but it just never worked.

We need players to complement each other.

Geads always plays in front of defenders aswell. Add embo into that and suddenly the attacking threat is all too predictable. Imo gooch aint the answer.
The 2 wide positions are there to won and maybe geads then fights with embo for no.10 position.

Lots of possibilities but thise wide positions and their impact will either make or break this team for winning the league

I think he wanted to impress and tried too hard but I liked some of what he did and would like to see more of him.

Start him against Cheltenham..the more games he plays the better he will get..I remember watching cirkins first game and he's just got better and better..I think it will be the same for this lad..he will learn

Many on here said Cirkin would be a backup reserve at best after his first game, that was their professional keyboard warrior view :D

Width apart from one or two of the early games has been coming from fullback positions and there's been more variation up front hence more assists centrally.

There's at least two games where Gooch was almost marking there player allowing Winchester to get past - which kind of accounts for his goal return.

On the left McGeady rather than being right up like last season (at times we even tried to overpower the left) to provide for Wyke is now moving centrally more, drawIng opposition to him and then feeding the ball out to Cirkin in space.

I think I'd like to see Dejaku come into form or bring a wide player into the club in January, but I don't think it's as easy as saying the wide players arent as effective - because we have movement up front now and don't have to rely on crosses it opens up different routes of play.

Game management needs to improve, but killing teams off isn't just about scoring goals - Wigan have only scored one more, but conceded two less.

13 goals in 8 games is decent, conceding 7 goals in 8 games isn't so great.

Scoring two goals away at fleetwood is great , conceding two in the last 15 minutes in a winning position is diabolical.

Appreciate everyone wants to score more and hammer teams so they can relax, but the amount of easy chances we give teams is as big of a problem as anything.
