Defoe on Moyes at Sunderland

All of this. Envious of the job he's doing at West Ham, but blatantly obvious he came here in the middle of some sort of professional crisis and half-arsed the entire job. Got no reason to disbelieve Defoe on his man-management, but wish he'd shown half the initiative in recruitment that got the likes of Coufal/Soucek/Benrahama rather than filling the squad with any old shite he could scrape up from his former clubs.

You do have reason to disbelieve Defoe. Kone, Kirchoff, Kaboul, Cattermole and Larsson have all said the opposite in various interviews over the years

Regardless of how he is doing now, he was an absolute disgrace here. He threw in the towel.

From day one (sending texts to journalists telling them they were "about to see the worst Premier League team in history and his interview after Boro when he had all but given up after 2 games), to the end of the season with the John Terry antics and everything in between (threatening to slap a female reporter for one) he was utterly abysmal.
Threw the towel in he never picked it up in the first place.

That's the nature of man-management though, isn't it? It's pretty subjective to the individual player, and apparently worked for Defoe. Not seen those other interviews, but Kaboul wasn't here for 5 minutes after he turned up, and Kone was as unprofessional as Moyes was that season.

I will say that his management of Kirchoff was atrocious. Allardyce knew exactly how to manage his minutes and our playing style to mitigate his injury issues and get the most out of him (and consequently he was one of our most effective players in that survival season). Moyes flogged him for 90 minutes a game, and he was never the same again.

Moyes didnt exactly help himself, but some of the players we had at the time were collectively the most cancerous, shit-stirring, self-centred ***** that you could ever wish to assemble:

Kone going on strike for a move.
Kaboul wanting a move down south for personal reasons.
Khazri being a fat, self-important knacker
Spaghetti Head and the other twat we sacked for being *****.
Rodwell for being Rodwell

With a core squad like that, on top of an aging O'Shea & cattermole, its little wonder that we failed that season.

Squad was crap but some of his signings should have been subject to an inquiry. Pienaar and Lescott had both been finished for years. Gave up 2 weeks in, but took the money while sitting on his hands watching us drop out of the league.

Before our game today

“He was brilliant to be honest. People always spoke about David Moyes being miserable but then he came and he really impressed me. His sessions, everything was with the ball, little rondos, possessions, attention to detail was unbelievable. Set-pieces, and all the meetings. What impressed me was how he treated the senior players. He wanted you to control the dressing room. He was just fantastic and it’s not surprised me the job he has done here.”
The results in 2016/7 speak for themselves.

As well as portaying a miserable personna, he signed some rubbish, gave lucrative contracts to Everton/Man Utd has beens and oversaw one of the worst releagations in our history.

Methinks Jermaine is giving a 'middle of the road' opinion because he is now one of 'the media', rather than telling it how it was

Defoe also praised Sam Alardyce. A manager who the majority of us liked. The manager who got West Ham promoted and kept in the Premier League. But the West Ham fans hated him because he didn't play 'the Wist Am way'.

His was the worst period I had following SAFC.
Agree. Even now we're in the 3rd division there is hope and some enjoyment in watching honest football players giving their all.

It is possible he just liked the bloke. There's people at work I like who are shit at their jobs.

It was highly unlikely that Defoe was going to say anything derogatory about Moyes, he starts down that road and his career in the media would be very short.

I thought Moyes was a good option when Short brought him in, but it was obvious right from the start that he just simply wasn't interested in being here. The football, the signings and the downright misery that set about the club under his reign was enough to turn anyone off football altogether!

Pity his can do attitude did not permeate through the turgid ranks of the dogshit squad he assembled, nor did it help him to articulate in a positive manner just what a good club we were, how good we could be, or that he held high expectations for us.

He came in under a cloud and took the wind out of collective sails after adding to our already huge collection of petulant players who could not be arsed.

Clearly "Brilliance" is subjective.

To put it more simply he was shit here.

Naa, sorry but I don't buy that at all. I think Defoe's better than that.

Did he? In what way? He might have left under one, but I certainly wouldn't have said he arrived under one. On paper, it looked as good an appointment as we could have made.

After Allardyce made a sharp exit when we appeared to finally be on the up. You might remember it differently of course.
