Defoe linked again

Jermaine is a lovely lovely man who we would all like to see back at the club in some capacity but PLEASE don't burden him with the responsibility of being the player who is going to get us out of the several years of shite we have got ourselves into. He doesn't deserve that.

I know we all love to think of Defoe as somebody that could play forever, but at what age does he become too old for a team that is looking to become more progressive in terms of transfer business?
It’s what he adds to the squad imho.
Be absolutely fantastic for younger players as they would all respect and learn from his knowledge

Never. Sign. Former. Players.

(They are not the players they were years ago!!)
I don't think anyone would be delusional enough to think Defoe is as good as he was in the Prem, he'd be a good backup option off the bench and a great character to have back here, I'd certainly be offering to pay for his coach training if I were in charge at the club and offering him experience as a coach here.

I've heard he's a great coach even though he has never done it before.

Don't go back.
It rarely works

He was certainly mentoring the younger players when he was here and there was no doubt they respected him. I wouldn’t want to see him back as a player as I don’t think that is the direction the club should be taking, but I suspect he has real potential in coaching.

Considering the finishing ability of both Maja and Asoro after apparently he worked specifically with them at least suggests hed be a decent coach as well.

This not going to happen. It’s like the clamour for Kevin Phillips.

They know they are held in high esteem by fans, they also know it could not go as well a second time plus they have moved on now.

Focus on the future.

Player coach here. When Johnson goes...
Ridiculous. His playing days are numbered in minutes rather than games nowadays. He should go to the USA but not us. As far as Defoe’s coaching experience is concerned, he should get experience with smaller clubs before trying out with clubs our size. It rarely works going back to previous clubs.

the eage budget next year will be around 9m maybe 10m surely defoe would be wanting 15-20 per cent of that to sign..thats a lot for one player and means the rest of the squad will be very cheap indeed

Would be the perfect person to have around if we are going down the route of developing players and having a recognised path to the first team, he’s a model professional who has played at the very top level and would be an excellent role model for any of the youngsters, give a playing / coaching role even maybe player development. having him involved at all levels can only be a good thing.
