Defoe linked again

As much as I love the little fella, he's 38 FFS.

If we go up or stay in this league, we need a model of bringing in (and bringing through the academy) young, decent, up n' coming talent. Particularly talent that also has pace and power.

If Defoe was coming as say a player coach (as @rocky has already mentioned), then fair enough.

But as a first team signing alone, no way.
Aye, player coach is the only way it could work, and tbh he'd have to accept much reduced wages. Have to be honest, I love Defoe, loved him well before he ever came here (on threads about your favourite non safc or ex safc player I'd always say him) but the way he left wasn't great. I know we'd have needed him off the wage bill anyway, but a clause allowing him to leave for nothing was disappointing. I don't hold it against him, after all we agreed to it (mind, likely through desperation as we needed him in to get rid of Altidore) but I don't think we owe him anything. For the right money, the right deal, aye I'd have him back as player coach. Wouldn't be breaking the bank for him though

Strange that fans are saying no to Defoe on a free, when we'll only have Stewart as our only forward next season.

We're going to be a lot of players short next season, surely bringing in a lad who clearly hasn't lost the knack of scoring goals for nothing would be a shrewd move?

Can't see him coming if we're still down here, but I bet the lad won't be short of offers in the championship.

I hope he doesn't come back. He was the ultimate professional when he was here, and the work that he did in the community was superlative. He left us with fond memeories; an absolute legend. Let's leave it that way.

Doesn't fit the data , although I think his healthy lifestyle has helped him keep fit and in shape for his age , oh and he does loads of bucking. Also will want a canny wedge.
Just can't see it but would be open to it if at all possible

We need to sack off this kind of delusion. He’s not coming back.
Would love to see it in any role whatsoever, just absolutely love the lad, he was the only bit of positivity coming out from the club and once he left the lights went out imo like.
Never really relied on his pace in the premier league for us to be fair mind.
Never been known for blistering pace, saying that he'd still take the piss against what we got now.

Get kicked to fuck in L1 and he'll be slower than leadboots now.

He's playing and scoring goals in the SPFL so I don't think getting kicked seems to stop him. If he can cope with the hammer throwers like Aberdeen and Motherwell I'm sure he would cope fine with afc Wimbledon.
