Before AN arrived Speakman's name on here was shit - AN arrived and made a silk purse out of sow's ear and Speakman was the best thing since Double Maxim was brought back from the dead.
I hope we are not back where we were pre-AN.

Don't think your giving Speakman enough time to be honest. He's what, 3 seasons in now and I'd suggest the players he's brought in have ebeen very good. It wasn't AN who brought the likes of Stewart, Clarke and Cirkin to name a few in.

I think we look to be heading in the right direction on the field. Of course there's been the shit off it, which now looks to be getting rectified after the fans got on the clubs back.

Neil leaving is part of football, its happened to most clubs over the years and it'll no doubt happen to us again at some point.

I just don't think he's the shit show that some are trying to perceive on here, but I guess everyone needs someone to blame.

Not one poster on this board knows what has gone on.

We do not know about his wages or the offer Stoke made to him or the transfer budgets involved.

We can speculate all we like but it’s based on opinion only and makes absolutely no difference to the situation one little bit.

I just hope we stuff Norwich.

He's wanted a loose contract as he seems to do it at every club. Probably as a way to make sure the job js right for him. Everywhere else once he's done well he's signed a long term contract.

He came when the club was a clusterfuck (still is in some ways). We had just sacked a manager for being third in the league, possibly instigated by not wanting Defoe who almost immediately quit the club and had a boardroom lying about owning the club, a demotivated squad and barely a pitch.

Neil had way more to lose by coming here. Predecessor's went from here to SPL and non league. A poisoned chalice with the odds stacked against him.

He didn't have a grand master plan to get a job at Stoke. He's left because he's not happy amd it's the ony way out.

I know it's hard to comprehend other people don't love the club as much as us (there's even a thread now complaining about it) but we aren't the be all and end all but the jilted ex lover denial and revisionism is bewildering.

That still doesn't mean he has gone about it in the right way a month into a season and 24 hours before a game, mind.

More than a fair argument mate. I don't think the board could have done much more than what they had done to back him. 24 hours before a league match, and 4 days before the window closes is an absolute piss take time to leave, which to me can't be excused even had they not backed him. Especially for a bloke that goes on about morals and integrity.

We could be the biggest spenders in the division but if it’s all on teenagers then most managers-coaches-pundits would agree its not “being backed“. Alan Hansen wad tell you……

50+ miles to Stoke. 130+ miles to Preston.

He was sacked at Norwich for refusing to play players that went nightclubbing after an official club function. A family members a Norwich fan and I was aware of the incident within days. Norwich initially agreed with him then back-pedalled. It’s all on the record. Nowt to withbtransfers or funding.

It may have been that behind the scenes, but publically he spoke about the money. I've seen/read plenty of interviews when we first appointed him, couldn't be arsed to have a proper search, but here he is spouting about why PL money had an effect on his sacking:

Sick of seeing people defend and refer to “the club” as a collective as if speaking against what happens is being detrimental to or against SAFC as a whole. “The Club” have owners, directors and senior management who are responsible for decision making and funding commitments. When you defend “the club” you defend them. You defend Donald, Sartori, Davison and KLD. That’s defending “the club”.

I’m f***ing pissed off with Neil that he saw fit to drive to Stoke the day before we play but I’m more pissed off with why he made that decision and what drove him to do it.
This has always been a problem with your fan base imo.

So many of you don't want to protest in fear of looking, "mag-esque".

When actually a protest in your circumstances is fully warranted.

Think you missed my point, I’m arguing that it can be sensible to use the current model and not put ourselves in a financial position we may not be able to sustain.
And I think you are missing my point

Nobody is saying return to blowing millions on deadbeats and semi-retirees as other clubs take advantage of us

But when we do unearth gems like AN or LND put your hand in your pocket and protect yourself by putting decent length contracts in place

Or face the current fuck up situation with no manager as the transfer window closes

Exactly this. This is the total point of the thread! “The Club” - the board, the owners, Speakman, Davison etc must take their share of the blame for this situation.

What exactly are we supposed to protest about?

No one knows what has occurred to cause this departure

Let’s say you get offered a job that brings you back home to the area your family lives in, and for more money?

What ya choosing?
Anybody with a bit of integrity would finish any work they had not just jump ship though. Even had he left at 5pm today would have more respect for him. Alex Neil engineered this, he could have been honest about it and made it clear end of last season he wanted back to his family. Sunderland might have offered him more money and a longer contract and he stuck with the 12months and the get out clause, who knows? Hope say Arsenal or Celtic don't offer him a job, too far for him Anybody who wants to be a footballer/manager should expect to have to move about (within reason). Sunderland is hardly outer mongolia. Nick Barnes nailed it about him, no interest in the area etc. Hey good luck to him if he wants to be back home but there is ways and means to go about things.

It’s not a bad thing. That’s the point. Grumpy is inferring that I’m saying that when I’m not yet you’ve went off on one saying I’m shouting him down and portraying him as the victim. He’s not the victim, he’s just bloody hard work sometimes.
I think GOM is old enough to fight his own battles, I just got the feeling you weren’t accepting any counter argument and not just from grumpy.

50 people could see our situation 50 different ways but no single argument will be 100% correct.

People are pissed off and rightfully so but the truth is it probably just comes down to AN being a greedy bastard and nowt the club does can change that. He’ll have his excuses but £1.5m a year is the real reason he went.

That’s the point I’m making to an extent. Yet people defend Donald and Co as if they are “the club”. They are not. Fuck them. They didn’t do enough to keep him here.

“It’s not the clubs fault” is defending those cretins.
'Donald ' has fuck all the do with it, he's a minority shareholder.
We can all speculate over the reasons for Neil leaving and blame 'the club' as much as you want, but its all speculation. The only thing we know is Neil decided the day before a game to distrupt the club, we'll have to wait for the whys.
There'll be near 40k there again today, most of us have made financial sacrifices in order to support our club, Neil has treated everyone that's made sacrifices to attend today with contempt. Fuck him.

The clubs a shambles man. Two hours before kickoff we’ve had no updates about anything and don’t even know who’s in the dugout. We need to get behind the team but it’s the people behind the scenes that are the problem, I know some people take any criticism of the club personally for whatever reason so I can’t believe people are still defending them

I have said “fair point” etc to many posters if you read the thread mate.

Not sure about that mind .
To summarize Alex Neil didn’t feel valued by Speakman.
Players are very upset he’s gone

Other than a 19% funding commitment.

Totally agree with the way Neil went about it. He could have went to Stoke tonight after the game. I just wonder why he was literally so desperate to get away.

“Greedy bastard” is one way of putting it

He is a professional football manager and works for money - not a fan of the club - is another

If you dont want your manager poached - at the most crucial stage of the season - put your hand in your pocket and put him on a long enough contract to protect yourself

Same goes for players

I don't see any value in denigrating our club on the basis of Neil's behaviour or speculation.
If the board haven't learned their lessons from Jan and don't appoint a decent manager sharp, then they'll deserve pelters.
