Deep purple lads appreciate the lads

Very modest too. Doesn't practise, just plays when needed.
Doesn't get the recognition as some of the others from that era but was always my favourite. Think I might gan and celebrate with "speed king" on full choc and a couple of JD's.[DOUBLEPOST=1391286076][/DOUBLEPOST]
One of my all time favourite Melody Maker quotes .

Interviewer:
Were you nervous when you stepped on stage at Maddison Square Garden?

Coverdale:
If you've ever played Wingate you're scared of nothing. Nothing.
Great quote man. I know the lad that used to be the resident DJ at the Argus Butterfly in Peterlee back in the day that all those bands used to play there. Its a cracking night out with him listening to his craic.

When it comes to the post-Deep Purple bands (or that should be mid DP now) Much prefer the Gillan bands to Coverdale's cockrock. First non-pub gig I went to was Gillan at Tooncastle City Hall. Saw Purple when they reformed at Knebworth circa 1985. The current lineup is probably better than MKII & I think have been going longer than both MKII incarnations. Massively jealous of OP.

I work for deep purple. Playing a show in oulu Finland tonight. They play a song called 'hell to pay'. Ian Gillan (singer) just introduced it by saying "lock up your horses, there's gonna be hell to pay"!
Sitting here pissing myself!
The keyboard players a massive lads fan y'nar.
If it gets up on you tube in the next few days ill hoy it up here.

Me marras sister kept her ticket stubbs from those days.

They read like a who's who of rock.

They should play "Black & White" in a comedic fashion segue-ing into a SAFC song medley, they can play anything they're such great musicians.

Many years ago - well, it was Oct 1976. I was hitching to India and a Syrian guy (I think it was) picked me up in Austria, slept a bit in Maribor (I had to get out and wander for a few hours) and then took me on to ....... somewhere south of Belgrade. Anyway, after leaving Maribor we got to Zagreb about 23.00 or so, and then we hit the Zagreb - Belgrade Friendship Highway. (or some name like that)

Whatever it's name, it was a deathtrap. 50km outside Zagreb it became a 2 lane road, and it was a horror story of mad overtaking, braking and cutting in on the guy behind. One of the most dangerous roads in the world with those drivers.

I decided Que Sera, Sera, and curled up on the back seat to sleep. The guy had the radio on, and just then they played Sweet Child in Time - never forget it. I survived, of course, to hitch through Yugoslavia on more than one occasion :)

Actualy, tell the lads, Purple seemed to be popular in Yugoslavia. Or at least in Croatia. I remember when I first arrived at Zagreb railway station in 1973, someone had painted "Deep Purple" in big letters on a wall across the tracks. This was before spray paints had been invented, so that still took some effort.

Is that a medley of Guns n Roses & DP? ;)
