Deep purple lads appreciate the lads

I hope Deep Purple play the proposed new music venue in Sunderland, it would be amazing to see a world class band open the place.

For some reason I couldn't get to Roker for the 5th round replay against Man City in 1973 so I went to see Deep Purple at the City Hall that same night. Ian Gillan came back on stage for the encore and said he wanted to read out a local football score. I of course jumped up with arms aloft, then remembered I was in Newcastle but turned around to see a number of others doing the same. Great concert but not as great as the game from what I have read and seen over the years.

What's the line up nowadays? Was one of my favourite bands when I was a lad. David Coverdale is from the Boro way too, isn't he?

Coverdale from Boro - yes (not sure if from the town or roundaboots like)

So was Paul Rogers, of Free

now that was a band I liked - The Hunter, too, of course.

Paul was never the same without Kossof though.

One of my all time favourite Melody Maker quotes .

Interviewer:
Were you nervous when you stepped on stage at Maddison Square Garden?

Coverdale:
If you've ever played Wingate you're scared of nothing. Nothing.
