DCL Promotion

So the DCL have confirmed there will be no relegation from DCL2 to the NEDCL. Hunwick will be invited to join the DCL if they meet the league requirements.

Castle Eden will automatically be promoted to premier league if Swalwell win the NTSL as they don't meet the premier league's requirements otherwise playoff between Castle Eden and Shotley Bridge will take place next week.

DCL are also accepting applications from other clubs
Why seeking applictions as the could have 25 teams in a weeks time?? If they are looking for 13 teams per league this will be a nightmare and for teams already struggling to field teams on Saturdays. They will need to have 26 set of fixtures to accommodate instead of 22 (each club will have 2 free fixtures)

Good luck with that one

Just to balance it a little bit - this 'league are accepting applications' line may not need to be taken so literally.

Hark back to my knowledge of the football pyramid, leagues often accept applications merely as a test or a taster for clubs who want to find out what they need to improve for the following year(s).

Especially with things like infrastructure and ground grading.

Disgraceful to be honest. Defeats the whole point if a pyramid system and history repeats itself, the whole senior league - Durham City saga springs to mind. Hunwick deserve their place at the table. But in the sake of fairness a club should be relegated. Think DCL are totally out of order.

Completely agree with this. Very short sighted on the part of DCL.

I could be completely wrong here, but are applications opening up a result of the NTSL merging with the Northumberland League. Geographically, a lot of the old TSL teams now fit much more with the Durham League. The likes of Annfield Plain/Lanchester/Leadgate all have some ridiculously long travels, and particularly Lanchester/Leadgate as old County League teams may not be keen on that. I suppose the argument is then should they have to start at the bottom of the Durham feed into the NEPL (ie. the NEDL). Alternatively they could go all out for promotion but this I suppose would be very costly and risky.

Shotley Bridge dont either.

Which requirements do you mean Swalwell dont meet?

I

The whispers are Swalwell don't have an under 15 side and weren't confident they would have by next year as just only started with 11's and 13's

No Sunday 3rd team either which is mandatory. This is interesting as neither did burnopfield but said they would have one in place when they entered NEPL1 which to be fair they did

So not sure what the committee at Swalwell said to the NEPL as assumin lg they could have risked it and pushed for more players to have a third team in 2018

From what I heard Swalwell is all around playing requirements. They have no Under 15 setup and no Sunday team. As far as I know Under 15 setup is the key as this is the real feeder into Senior teams, more so than Under 18s. Facilities are always going to be fine with having such a new ground.

For Shotley they have everything in place with Junior Set Ups and Senior teams. I suppose theonly thing you could pull Shotley up on would be the size of their changing room, but they are clean, have working showers etc etc, so see no reason for them not to be admitted.

Shotley Bridge only have 10 years on the lease for their ground and the landlord wants to build houses on it! Cant remmeber the figure NEPL put on leasehold

Swalwell from what i have heard will use the Burnopfield example, and make some promises to have the set up in place.

I do know there is ongoing contact with both clubs about their possible membership for 2018 though

Never thought of leases being considered. I know the owner has wanted to develop on there for about 25 years but always struggled with the access road. Not sure what the exact arrangement is down there. I know years ago the plan was to move to a field over the back of where the nets are now. Seemed to be a similar arrangement as that Burnopfield had where the developer would set them up with a field and pavilion as part of any deal.

Mind you facilities aside, I'd much rather go to Shotley to watch/play a game than Swalwell.

I like Shotley as a ground but the changing rooms are too small, whereas its always windy at Swalwell

Very, very worrying for the NEDCL if true, and, personally speaking, annoying as a Hunwick player.

Over the course of the season we have proven to be the best team in the NEDCL and the likelihood is that next year we could be playing in the same division as a side that finished 5th in the same league.

With no relegation, the NEDCL could feasibly go down to 8 teams next season and that's including Burnhope who might also harbour hopes of going into the DCL (not sure on what their plans are as a club).

Think it states you need atleast 10 years so they should be ok on that front.

On another note, if there is to be a playoff, what happens if it is rained off?
You will like this one:

In the event the play off can't be played the NEPL management will select which team to promote!!!

No toss of coin/bowl off etc, just who they like the best

Where is hunwick?
Near Willington.
Ground any good?
Obviously biased but I think it's the best ground in the league. New drainage done about 4 / 5 seasons ago which has bedded in well. New electronic scoreboard installed this season. Patio with good seating outside the pavilion. Also has netting for spectator safety. Track is a batsmans paradise.
