Briefly touched upon in the Banks Salver thread, regarding ground and club criteria - so it's got me to thinking about which DCL clubs have the necessary credentials to be promoted to the NEPL D1?

I believe Castle Eden are top, with Tudhoe second.

Would Castle Eden seek promotion?

Same with Northumberland and Tyneside. Could see a few wanting a fresh challenge from that league.

Swalwell, Shotley Bridge, Ashington, Tynedale

Do they have to go for it or is it optional? I know in the past Swalwell and Shotley have both stated their desire to want to remain in the NTSL, but surely given their outlay on players they would want to have a crack at the Premier League. Ashington seem pretty ambitious these days too and can't see why Tynedale wouldnt fancy a go.

I think you have to indicate your willingness to join if champions of the feeder league. The new Northumberland League as part of the pyramid would be the driver behind wanting to. There seems to be a very distinct mini league of the clubs mentioned and everyone else so i think a crack at premier league would be obvious, especially given the success of previous NTSCL clubs like Sacriston and Burnopfield. Whether they would be competitive without a few more players is unclear. Certainly facilites wise they would all be fine

I would imagine this to be similar with DCL?

I think those NTSL teams would be fine, in NEPL1 anyway. I know in the past the clubs have been worried at the NTSL stance that teams going into the NEPL weren't guaranteed readmission should they be relegated, so I guess with the pyramid agreed, this fear will no longer be an issue. Shotley is a lovely place to play, albeit the away changing room is about the size of my box room, and Swalwell has great facilities. Be great if one of them makes the leap.

On another note, what would happen to the relegated team if the NTSL champs were the ones to come up? Looks like Mainsforth or Seaham Harbour and I imagine they will want to be int he Durham League rather than the NTSL.

There are a lot of nice grounds like Shotley and Swalwell and it seems either could win the league so interesting if they do make the leap.

Im not sure how the pyramid will work in reverse. Surely they would have to go into the league of the promoted team? Is it not one from each feeder league that would be promoted or a play off with the 2 champions?

Edit: It seems it would be a play off

So to confirm, if DCL and NTSL Champions both seek promotion - they have to play a head to head playoff? To determine who goes up? Is that correct?

Would the relegated team automatically go into their most sensible regional equivalent? So Mainsforth drop into DCL even if Ashington were promoted?

From what i could find it seems the DCL and NTSCL will compete in play-off but what happens to the relagated team im not sure as there doesnt seem to be anything on the NEPL or respective feeder league sites!

I believe the situation regarding promotion is as follows. There is a Playoff between the league winners of the DCL & NTSL if they want to go up, if not the playoff is then offered to the team in 2nd place in the respective league. The winner of the playoff goes into the NEPL1 and the team relegated goes to the league of their choice.

Would that not create an inbalance between the leagues? Not sure there is a an ideal answer mind

There was talk of that but I think they didn't want to be going back to the situation that actually meant the DLC was created when leagues and clubs refused to drop down to certain leagues

Presumably game takes place Sept 16th? Creates a logistical nightmare if rained off!

If the NTSL team won the play-off would that mean DCL 1 ends up with 13 teams in it or do they change promotion/relegation?

So DCL 1 will end up with 13 in it? Would create havoc down at the bottom of DCL 2 if relegation to the NEDL was in the cards if Hunwick go up!

It should be. That's the agreement. Hunwick appear to meet all the criteria, depends on winning league and wanting to go up. So if Hunwick were promoted bottom DCL team would move to the NEDCL. They could promote two from DCL 2. To give 14 in DCL 1 and 12 in DCL 2.

Asked it originally but not been answered - would Castle Eden seek promotion if they win the DCL??

Is there ground good enough?

What happens to the 2nd Xi?

If a team is bottom of DCL 2, but their seconds are top of their league do they drop down to the NEDCL too?
