well crook mackem on here seems convined he's going to be sold..so theres obviously buffoons amongst our support who love to think the worst of the team they support

hold on a minute....................

The only reason i think him (or young henderson) will be sold is because they are our most saleable assets and Stevie likes a kitty to go raiding obscure foreign lands. Once they become coveted and rated highly, past history suggest he will let them go.

Best player we have by a million miles, personally I wouldnt sell him for anything, in fact id give him a pay rise.

On reflection I think it will be Henderson who gans but I wouldnt be surprised if it was Bent.

You know what this is like? It's like when you pull a bird who is pretty much out of your league, and you aren't secure enough to say 'fuck it I deserve her!' Then you start to question why she would be with you, then you ask her if she's going to leave you. She responds with 'never', you turn into a right huffy tw*t cos you don't believe her. Pretty soon you left w*nking into an old sock over the sly photo you took of her on your mobile when she was showering!

We are a team on the up, we do deserve Benty, he is happy to be here. Let's all just enjoy it, or else our sock draws are gonna get very f***ing messy!

Agreed.

Bent is a square peg in a square hole. He's a big part of our club's (hopefully) bright future, and he seems to be well aware of that.

He's on the right track to becoming a cast-iron legend at this club, and he seems to be the type of footballer who actually cares about that sort of thing.

What past history would this be?

The past history where the chairman sold Wigan's top assets from under him.

Which is also why it won't happen here.

Wigan didn't actually sell that many assets either tbh. They still have Fig Roll and Zog, the only asset I can think of that they cashed in on was Valencia - and tbh if Man U come calling then you have absolutely no chance of keeping your player.

Palacios and Cattermole.

Didn't Hutchings sign him for Wigan?

Dunno actually.

Responding to the "Wigan didn't..". Point being they do sell and it's likely they have to.

They don't sell more than other clubs around them really - if Fulham or Blackburn have players who'd make the bench at Man U or Spurs then they'll have to sell.

Same for us, albeit to a lesser extent. And I don't see any evidence that Bruce has a record of selling talent to fund wheeler-dealery. In fact, all I see is further evidence that he and his team have a knack of unearthing bargains over and over again.

For every elmo there is an angleri and a riveros. He throws his net far and wide and generally for every decent find there will be 2 (more often more)who do nowt.

Anyhow, off the top of my head...
Wigan - Palacios and Valencia
Birmingham - Pennant and Heskey (for all they`re not that good they were doing well and were probably the stars of his side at the time)

Its also worth noting that he has managed at Sunderland, Wigan and Birmingham when all 3 have had their record transfer sale.

That's my point. You can't use his time at Wigan as proof, Wigan have to sell to stay afloat.

Angleri has yet to play and Riveros has had mixed form after coming off the back of an excellent World Cup.

You can't possibly arrive at conclusions on those players, unless you have a pre-concieved argument that you're trying to prove. Which, of course, is exactly what's you're doing, have always done, and will always do.

I`m not trying to prove anything I`m simply saying the trends are that he buys cheap and sells big. Not a bad thing but I`d rather we kept our best players....hopefully i`ll be wrong and we will.

At Wigan and Birmingham, the manager largely has to.

Not so at Sunderland. And our cost of our strike force suggests that too.

I think he'll only sell our best players if the money is ridiculous.

The finances at Birmingham were quite healthy when he was there iirc. They were favorites to go up when they went down with us

To my knowledge no one has said anything close to that. Just some comments were made about his game, his strengths and weaknesses and people got very very defensive.

It's because a couple of 'new' players have had at most, a couple of very good games, to compare that with Bent's contribution is unfair because of the timescale involved. Two very good games? Big deal.
