Yes it will fail an MOT.I’ve got these on a car made in 2020. Part of one has gone out/ dimmed. It’s not the whole light.
The full headlight works ok. Will this fail a MOT ?
I’ve been told it cannot be repaired and I will need to buy a full headlight at a cost of £660
Anyone know ?
Away then I’ll ask the question for ya , what type of car is it?I’ve got these on a car made in 2020. Part of one has gone out/ dimmed. It’s not the whole light.

It's almost as if the manufacturers do this deliberatelyI’ve been told it cannot be repaired and I will need to buy a full headlight at a cost of £660

Yes it will fail. Trust eBay for a used unit, or be raped by the dealership.I’ve got these on a car made in 2020. Part of one has gone out/ dimmed. It’s not the whole light.

The price of some light units are eye watering and this surely has to be part of the reason why insurance has gone up in recent years. It only takes a little car park accident and it could be ower £1,000 just for a headlight. Even £400-£500 for a 2nd hand one but that's not guaranteed to be plug n play either. Sometimes there is an option to get an outer lens for £50-£80 if it's just that but then it can be a reet clart on swapping it over given they're well sealed up.Yes it will fail an MOT.
The manufacturer may pay, Mazda did for mine as it was a recall and they were £1100 a pop.

Failure and in your case would need a new unit. Used might be your best bet. Absolute rip off newer cars, my last car DLR was just a £3 bulb and could be done in about 10 minutes. Might be cheaper to hire the same car then swap them owa but that wouldn't be niceI’ve got these on a car made in 2020. Part of one has gone out/ dimmed. It’s not the whole light.

Are they the same as MOT rules ?I dont think it will be a fail as long as the DRLs do not act as position lamps as DRLs are not mandatory. They only need to be inspected post 2018 when fitted by manufacturer.
On the inspection notes under DRLs it states only minor/major if there are displaying incorrect light. Nothing in there about if theyre not operating.
No one read it like that? Will have to dig out my construction and use regs

Sunderland Honda passed my civic last year where its got these fairly pointless side lights on the front wheel arch which are currently 'out'. They're not indicator lights, more day light running & even the tech said there's no real need to fork out 100 to fix them.Very similar as in almost identical i think. Theyre the first thing manufacturers stick to when designing vehicles. Often why its having to be constantly updated the more they add.

It’s quite clear from the regs that all M1 cars manufactured after 2018 must have DRLs. Where fitted it’ll fail if it’s out as described in the OP.I dont think it will be a fail as long as the DRLs do not act as position lamps as DRLs are not mandatory and that only a little of them are not working. They only need to be inspected post 2018 when fitted by manufacturer.
On the inspection notes under DRLs it states only minor/major if there are displaying incorrect light. How much of them are not working? Seems to be mentioned.

DRLs are mandatory as of 2018.This is what im thinking with them not being mandatory but seems to mention a certain proportion of them need to be running if their on. Maybe if theyre all out, thats fine but if theyre on, a certain % of them need to be illuminated and working.
