Exactly, everytime i read or hear something about him it is "hero" this "hero" that!

He was sitting in his police car waiting to catch someone speeding and someone shot him in the face!!

I remember at the time hearing that he volunteered to take up that position as he thought there was a decent chance that Moat would pass that way.

And all police are heroes by going out on the streets and roads to deal with scum in the first place.

If true that would put the kybosh on his claims that he wasn't warned he was in danger.

he was warned though. he told his wife there was a gunman on the loose just before he was shot by the gunman who he incidently had a history with. strange

Why?
I assume he was well aware he knew Moat was on the run, as were most of the North East.

There's a difference between knowing he was on the run and not being warned that Moat had made specific threats against police.

Was he told that the gunman had made a specific threat to police?

It would indeed.

It wouldn't like.

How?

Wouldn't. ;)

Just would.

IMO he is not a hero, a valiant person yes for how he has overcame adversity and has done something productive with a shit situation.

I hope he goes on to raise loads of money for his charity and can live as better life as he can.

The most part Police should be comended for the work they do (yes there are wankers as with all walks of life) they never know what will happen every time they clock on.

I think hero is banded about to much these days, is Ian Botham a hero for his charity work and how he won us the ashes course not but a noble man I reckon.

Think folk should leave him alone and if they don't wanna see him just switch over.

Just would.

Why? Everyone knew that Moat was on the run, both coppers and public.

The lad Chris Brown had been reported as shot dead, safe to say anyone who had seen the news knew Moat had a gun.

I don't see why Rathband saying he "volunteered to take up that position as he thought there was a decent chance that Moat would pass that way" would "would put the kybosh on his claims that he wasn't warned he was in danger".

Every man and his dog knew he was on the run with a gun, not everyone, apparently inculding Rathband, knew that direct threats had been made against the police.

He's been through a lot and all that, fair play. But that's what he was paid to do. As an ex-soldier I despise those squaddies who stick compo claims in after being shot or injured some other way. He's the same in my view, demanded to have his job back when he is clearly incapable of doing it properly then whacks a f***ing great compo claim in for being hurt doing a job that runs a massive risk of being hurt. Tool in my view and sick of the sight of him, which is more than he can say about me. oooh bit of a cheap shot that like.

To be fair he didn't demand it at all, it was his job before he was shot, why should it cease to be his job after he was shot?

The Police service can't just pension you off as and when they feel like it.

They have a legal duty to find him a job within the employ of Northumbria Police, this job clearly wont be in the same ilk as the one he did previously, but he is still entitled to work all the same.

Some of the post regarding David Rathband on here are a bit odd to say the least, needless to say i hope the folk on here, the ones sick of Rathband and his "publicity seeking" never get shot fom virtually point blank range in the face through a car window resulting in permanent blindness and the loss of a hand.

He wanted his old job back

He wanted his old job back

It would still be his old job, he would still be a Police constable (or whatever rank he held) it just wouldn't be as a front line officer.

If by his old job back he means he wanted to drive a Police car and chase down criminals in the street, as a front line Police Officer, then he is mad if he honestly beleives it is possible.

Without seeing his actual quotes on the definition of "his old job" i can't really comment further.
