Fair craic to him after everything that has happened.

His positive attitude is at long last overshadowing the publicity and macabre hero worship that has built up around the headcase who shot him.

(I'm not even mentioning that person's name in the same post because he does not deserve it).

Never heard of him.

Therein lies the problem.

No matter what anyone thinks about him, they will never ever take away that Moat thread on here on the night on the night Gazza turned up. Best night ever on the SMB

best night ever in the pub. the whole 'catch moat' saga was quite funny but gazza turning up just made it unbeleivable. everyone in the pub was in stitches

crikey, too many people sticking up for David Rathband, MackemBJ will be on all day sending them threatening PM's

Don't see how he is a 'hero' TBH

Exactly, everytime i read or hear something about him it is "hero" this "hero" that!

He was sitting in his police car waiting to catch someone speeding and someone shot him in the face!!

then target any ire towards the press for giving him that label other than a bloke trying to do good by using the profile that been unfortuantley thrown upon him to raise funds for charity

And then went on to use his profile to raise money for charity. If it was a soldier blinded by the Taliban while sitting in his land Rover, you'd have no issue calling him a hero.

Brave? Yes.

Inspirational? Yes.

Hero? No...wrong place at the wrong time I'm afraid - it could have been any police man - and I have two in my family, so it could have been one of them.

Not that I'd wish those injuries on anybody.

You can be heroic after the fact, a response to adversity can be heroic.

Anyway, sorry to interrupt this shitfest.

Just my twopenneth...

Doesn't make me right...

You're entitled to your opinion too.

Personally, I have nothing against him.

Of course, it just seems that a lot of people's idea of heroism seems to be storming machine gun nests armed with only a potato or putting yourself in peril, or being injured / dying for a cause or to save others. Whilst of course that's heroic, so is reacting positively to illness, injury etc.

I've never seen him on the telly down here so can't say I've got any opinion on him ... he's obviously a local hero (or portrayed as one).
