David Moyes V Sam Allardyce

At the end of his contract. He didn't get into a strop and stop turning up for work at Everton in those last few weeks of his contract, so there's nothing to suggest he'd do so here if there were several years left on his contract with us.
He didn't do a Tony Pulis!

Also apparently Sam prepared a "dossier" on Crystal Palace while Pardew was still working away. What a slime ball!

That's just your assumption man, you have nothing to back that up in his case cos he's never done that.
The idea someone in football has some integrity seems so ridiculous, perhaps due to how low the game has stooped.

George Graham would be lauded for his "entrepreneurial spirit" nowadays!

I keep reading this, as though it should count against Sam in some way. Moyes had the opportunity to spend £30m in the summer. He got 9 players with it and some haven't done very well at all.

Three cracking players on big wages? He still had to go out and find them, he had to sign them and he had to get them integrated and playing well. It was a risk and it saved our season.

Why it's now being portrayed as Sam got something Moyes didn't/won't I'm not sure. Moyes had twice as much to spend.

If Moyes really has nothing to spend in January, that's not Sam's fault or should detract in any way from the job he did here. Moyes should have spent better in the summer, frankly. The job Sam did was an excellent one and it's a damn shame it couldn't be carried on and we've lost out as a result of England poaching him for one game.

After a dreadful start there are signs of optimism for Moyes, personally I like the way he's set us up in our last two games, but it's only very tentative optimism, that's all they are and we've still got a long, long way to go.

Good post tbf. Firstly i'm definitely not making a negative out of Sam's signings. They were great signings and getting that type of quality in during the January window is very difficult and it did save us. He's a very good premiership manager Sam, as is Moyes. They have managed 900 games between them in the premiership between them so they both must be doing something right.

However I will take you to task a little over Moyes summer situation. He was left in a situation where:
1) Lots of players had left the club in the summer meaning we were very low on numbers
2) He had other good players trying to engineer a move away
3) He was told to cut the wage bill

That's a very difficult position to be in as a manager. It almost rules out getting a big player for a commanding fee on big wages because you have to spread that pot of money thinly. Getting 3 players in for 10 million a piece on big wages was never going to happen as it would leave us way short of numbers. In the summer and in January he is operating under far greater constraints than Sam was able to last January. I doubt Sam would be here now under those constraints anyway. That's not a criticism of Sam but I think you underestimate the difference in managing Sunderland now than even as little as a year ago. I think both managers are excellent and we are lucky to have Moyes now IMO.

That's one way of putting it.

He didn't do anything remotely wrong while at Sunderland

Strange that you think he did

He signed a player for 5 mill we could have sold for 20mill and you still moan :lol:

Signing players from renowned crooked agents and promising them wage increases and new contracts (with bonuses for the agent no doubt) months later isn't normal. the whole Kone situation would have been manufactured by Allardyce. Of that I have no doubt.

We will make a massive profit off him :lol::lol:

You said "no debate". I think there's loads to debate.
Reid did a great job at Sunderland, course he did. Moyes eclipsed that at Everton for me, finishing top 4 with the team he did was some achievement. He took them to a cup final or two, despite spending absolute buttons and finished top 6/7 for years on the trot, not just twice.

I don't see how Reid is better, apart from red and white specs which we look back on fondly.

Great - now we're having a debate.
I think Reid built a fantastic attacking side - the best i've seen at Sunderland, and I couldn't give a shite about Everton.

Allardyce - lauded as the messiah when he didn't do anything more than Advocaat, Poyet and Di Canio had done before him in keeping us up against the odds. Turns out he is nefarious in the transfer market and was hated at his previous club because of his style of football

Moyes - described as a 'busted flush' by many because he took on Man U after Sir Alex Ferguson, but actually has a better record than Van Gaal and Mourinho since. Proven to take time to build a project and loved at his previous club.

A bit of perspective suggests the long term sensible choice of manager for our club is Moyes, but results will tell

I'm still happy to give Moyes a chance, but I just wish Allardyce would stop getting this rep as the best manager we ever had. He isn't

He did, but just because you don't care about Everton doesn't make him better than Moyes.

Peter Reid hasn't achieved half of what Moyes has in his managerial career, which was @jsdftm04 's original point.

We all liked the attitude Sam seemed to get across to the squad in the second half of the season, we were all amazed at the quality of his January signings and we liked the emotions at the end.

It's a tough act for Moyes to follow. We will not get the emotions as it's just not his style. All the press conferences say he cannot make similar January signings due to cash restrictions, so it's down to the long haul - and recent results have been encouraging. I wanted Sam back, but Moyes seems to be getting there slowly. Let's see where we stand after another few weeks.

The two best managers we have ever had...and is probably a statistical fact. We were unlucky to lose one, lets ensure we look after the other. Moyes may not be the peoples champion and relate to fans the way Sam did...but he's better technically and can coach a team to play more than one way. Short needs to support this man...he is our future. Without him it will be bleak!

Reid is by far the best in my lifetime.
