Fucks the difference between a 1 year deal and a 'short term deal'?
This. FactIt's just a different version of the role Methven was doing at the end of the day. Convincing and impressive words, but it's actions we need to see. How much input he has into what actually goes on is very much anyone's guess.
Have you heard anything about Demetri Mitchell, I was told he could play for us against Gateshead tomorrow.I’ve been told Monday mind![]()
That's quite a leap but thanks.
I think Jones is potentially an asset to the club, pretty much covered in my OP.
Aye, I didn't mention Sloanes for that exact reason. People can say that Jones was just saying all the right things but if there's no substance there then it's easy to see through. I thought Sloanes, although he seems a nice bloke and enthusiastic, was the embodiment of that and brought Jones' nous to the fore and into starker contrast.
No mate, last I heard he won’t be signing but could’ve changedHave you heard anything about Demetri Mitchell, I was told he could play for us against Gateshead tomorrow.
Both Tom Sloanes and Dave Jones can be integral going forward if they're given a chance. Tom, in particular, is a great chap who'd be there socially distanced as a supporter when the gates reopen if he wasn't in the board room. I don't know Dave Jones so can't speak about him on a personal level. We, as a fan base, have a responsibility to question everything of course but make sure we are asking the right questions of the right people. They were both excellent appointments at the time and they're probably needed even more so now. Some of the stick Tom has taken has been out of order and it really doesn't help anyone or anything. I know Tom will get on with it and I know he knew he's put himself in a position to be shot at when he agreed to join a board of directions that isn't popular outside the club but we still have a responsibility to question the right things.
It seems that they are currently being given that chance that they require to have a say at the table. That's a good thing.
There'll be no one more pissed off if this season isn't a success than Tom and Dave Jones I'm sure.
Lets get behind whoever we have next month and see where it gets us.
Keep the faith.![]()
My guess would be we have an option to extend the deals at the end of the contract like we did with O'Nien.Fucks the difference between a 1 year deal and a 'short term deal'?
I don't question his loyalty as a fan or that he has been very successful in his career.
I think his outlook toward football and positivity before everything else is unhelpful. Intelligence and critical thinking comes before well-wishing when it comes to our future.
It's pretty unpleasant to see an MLF who is doing his best being spoken to in the manner that he has although he hasn't half brought some of it on himself by not judging the room.
I thought the recruitment in January was much better thought out and targeted than previous scattergun efforts. I liked the links to Boyce, Coyle and particularly Docherty. Ultimately we got none in and fell short.
I think it would be harsh to judge Jones by results and what actually materialises under this regime though. Regardless of what strategy he envisages he's likely to be hamstrung in implementing it by limited resource and potentially resistance from others (as hinted at in the video). That's why I would hope that he, or at least someone with a similar outlook and vision, is given a chance under new improved ownership too.
Did your mate rate him from what he saw in training? No mate, last I heard he won’t be signing but could’ve changed![]()
If they haven’t ripped everything up and started again after the shambles that was the football side over the past two years then they simply aren’t savvy enough to be in a position of power at our club.I've been in Tom's company countless times after a match and he's as honest as they come. If we're shite, he'll say so. He even mentions Bristol Rovers away last season on that video chat. Equally he's never one to get carried away after a poor result. Easy to say we're shite but there's no need for a meltdown or to rip everything up and start again after a poor game. Players at this level are never going to be able to perform like world beaters every week.
If the room is wanting us to rip everything up and start again when the reality inside the club is different then I'm happy for Tom to go against the room.
I generally agree with where you're coming from but from the transcript of the RAWA meeting with Donald I thought Sloanes came across extremely poorly.I've been in Tom's company countless times after a match and he's as honest as they come. That's fine. He's a friend and I'm sure he is perfectly pleasant.
I just disagree with his outlook and in some cases find it harmful. If I'm right or wrong is another matter.
Don't mean the chap any harm and I appreciate him trying. I'd just prefer someone whose outlook doesn't enable terrible practice imo there.
Never really said anything about him really just that Grigg looks a different player and banging them inDid your mate rate him from what he saw in training?
What part of his outlook are you not keen on?
He wants us to get better, he hates losing, he knows we haven't been good enough and is happy to say when we're awful but equally he's not going to take to the Internet and rip the club to shreds if we're not winning 4-0 every week. Dave Jones who is seemingly very popular even makes reference to the fact that Tom is rarely quiet. He'll drive standards up and isnt there for the ride. He had a pretty cushy number before he joined the board. He didn't have to take the step up.
Give him a chance.
Agreed that his initial interview sounded good but wasn't really followed up on, probably optimistic to think he'd have had that much of an instant impact. Alongside that, I think it's really significant that they said a lot seems to have changed since lockdown started and we've seen Hill and Coton leave. It sounds like there was a battle that they've won and they are talking about taking an approach I want to see recruitment wise and saying the right things about the academy. But as you and others have stated on here actions speak a lot louder than words. It's nice to have someone involved whose motives I can't question.I think this is the issue, I wasn't overly keen until I heard what he said in December about not limping over the line and bringing in a squad that can stay with us if we go up.
We were then linked with the right players Boyce, Coyle, excellent loans etc
But instead, we actually got short term extreme signings and wasted money.
I'm glad he's here, massive step up from people who serve their own interests first but I'll perceive the club on its actions, not its words, time for that is long gone.
I don't agree that the fan base should be thankful that we are not Bury. I think if you're comparing yourself to the very worst position possible, that tells you something about the club's performance.
I don't agree that every player we sign is excellent and that we should be relishing the opportunity to watch them play.
I don't agree that we have lost our brightest players as an inevitability.
Whilst a meltdown is never productive, I don't think the majority should be written off as a bad day at the office or being unlucky. I think bad situations require critical thinking and action.
I find that type of outlook as enabling lack of thought and it negates responsibility.
I'd much rather hear were shit, this is why we're shit, it's our responsibility that were shit and this is what we're going to do to fix it. We appreciate fans will be holding us accoutable to do what we have said we will do.
Has Dave Jones, who's seemingly getting an easy ride, said any of the things you wish to hear from Tom Sloanes? Both Dave Jones and Tom Sloanes are positive and confident and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. They'll both be asking the questions, privately, that need to be asked.
