I don't mind them. It's rather nice sleeping with the curtains open knowing that you won't be interrupted by bothersome stuff like sunlight in the morning.
Admittedly I'd probably have a different view if the bedroom was less private.

Early mornings and nights should be dark imo. Nowt worse going to work at 4 in morning and its bright. Nights should be dark so when going to pub you see the warm welcoming glow of the lights enticing you in.
