Re: SSN bid made for Danny Graham

Like to give some examples of strikers with premier league experience who could be bought for similar money and would be willing to come here?

Gary hooper being touted in the press for a similar fee. Hasn't played premiership footy, but done ok in the champions league.

Re: SSN bid made for Danny Graham

Definitely on a par with graham though

Also there will be better players in the championship Austin looks a good plauer

Re: SSN bid made for Danny Graham

I don't understand all this hostility - he's a clearly a local lad and so has an affinity with NE clubs.

Or maybe he's negotiating a clause that he will play for us but won't have to wear the red and white stripes.

That Lee Clarke was a good player mind...

Re: SSN bid made for Danny Graham

Are there any actual quotes or genuine evidence of his apparent hatred for all things Sunderland or has his missus merely stated a mild preference for Eldon Square ahead of Jacky Whites of a Thursday night?

He just doesn't seem to like us.

Hate is going a bit far maybe.

Re: SSN bid made for Danny Graham

I thought someone got it spot on before when they said if asked which striker Sunderland should sign this month I'd be surprised if anyone would have suggested Danny graham.... So why the sudden love in, it's ok to say you don't want us to sign a player

its not exactly a love in, if he signs then he would improve our squad. If MON decides he would then it would surely improve us?

If someone asked me which striker we should sign this month I would offer two up - take a gamble on Charlie Austin and maybe go for someone like Odemwingie until the summer

There are plenty of players available with prem experience for similar (or less) money. If you want one who scored more goals than Graham last season then you're struggling. However, that is manipulating the criteria to get the desired outcome. Odemwingie has a better overall premier league pedigree than Graham. He's also taller (which was a surprise to me) and quicker. No doubt he'd be available for a similar price.

We need to decide what we want here, though. Some on here want cover for Fletcher. Graham would be ideal for that on the face of it but he wants to move for first team football. In that case he looks much less ideal. He posesses neither pace or physicality to make him a good bet to dovetail well with Fletcher. Also he scored his goals last season playing as lone forward in a Swansea team that created more chances (I think) than SAFC. At the very least they created different types of chances. There is no guarantee that he will be able to replicate his goalscoring run at SAFC. Additionally, if one of the main motivators for moving back to the NE is to be nearer to friends and family, it is feasible there could be consequences in terms of his off the field behaviour.

Long and the short of it is that there are better options out there when everything is taken into account. If all MON wants is a body to put on the bench to the end of the season then he should be looking at the domestic loan system for the answer.

All the below are rumoured to be available for similar fee/cost to Graham and could fulfill the back up striker role to various levels of ability. Danny Graham would be at the lower end if you ranked them on ability.

Kenwyne Jones
Cameron Jerome (I know he's not very good but neither is Graham)
Djibril Cisse
Gary Hooper (no PL experience buy has played CL football)
Victor Anichebe
John Guidetti (No PL experience but has played ina good European League and lived in the UK)
Peter Odemwingie
DJ Campbell

I'm not saying we should be signing any of them (Guidetti is probabaly the only one) but I just wanted to highlight that there are plenty of strikers around who we could sign.

Kenwyne Jones -no
Cameron Jerome (I know he's not very good but neither is Graham) -no
Djibril Cisse - no
Gary Hooper (no PL experience buy has played CL football) - unsure
Victor Anichebe -fuck yes but no way will he be available or at that price
John Guidetti (No PL experience but has played ina good European League and lived in the UK) - never seen him play
Peter Odemwingie - yes
DJ Campbell -no

If we have a slight chance to sign Anichebe then absolutely

Thanks. You've convinced me........ Graham would be a good signing after all!

Re: SSN bid made for Danny Graham

Lambert and Holt are both the wrong side of 30 and have played Premier League football for about 5 minutes. You can keep both of the IMO.

I don't get this mass hysteria about Graham either. Look at his career, it's rank average and lower division fodder. Look at him play, he doesn't really do anything exceptionally well, and Swansea (yes Swansea) are prepared to peddle him on the cheap.

His Magness will bring more shite with it, you can ignore it if you want but you're fooling yourself. As soon as he has a bad spell (and he will, for the above mentioned reasons of his rank averageness) then it will all come out. And if he has a stinker against them lot (which a lot of our players do a lot of the time) then he's finished.

Some people just won't acknowledge that his Magness (and all of the offending comments, perceived or otherwise) will be a factor. Very naive IMO.

And for holding this opinion I've been called all the names under the sun and told to fuck off and support someone else. Who's being childish?

Spot on and very well put.

Some people on here need to have a good look at themselves.

I'd be very happy with Odemwingie or Jerome personally
