I think it's a bit different. It wans't difficult to understand people's reasoning behind not being fully behind the Fletcher signing due to the £12m fee. Obviously in hindsight it was a fantastic buy but seemed very risky at the time.

As for Graham, he is a self-confessed mag, hails from a family of mags and has openly said in the media he would never support Sunderland. That's fine, but he's now potentially going to play for us...how does that change things? Was he lying before? Has he had a change of heart? As long as he is professional about his business and sticks in, no one will mind. Fans still have Clark and Chopra at the backs of their minds and rightly so.

Personally, I would rather have Danny Graham than no-one but he's not the most exciting of signings, nor is he likely to increase in value. Decent back-up I suppose, providing his attitude is right.

That's just how Danny rolls.

Pretty much agree with all of that.

I get that the idea of being a mag would lead people to think that you then can't play for Sunderland, but if you are a pro (like he seems to be), you can play and succeed in playing for "the rivals" i.e. Michael Laudrup who played for both Real and Barca, Sol Campbell for Spurs and Arsenal and in a smaller scale Craig Gardner who played for both Villa and Birmingham

"It's different 'cause it's Newcastle" blah blah.

So he's going to solve his personal problems by coming to a club where 90% of the fanbase detests him?

I think about 60% of this board equals to about 30% of our supporters, most will give him a chance, his attitude when we play the mags will say it all...

I will 100% get behind him. 100% hope his and his family matters are quickly resolved and he settles back in the North East. I 100% think he will score goals for us.

But I also 100% think it will end in tears.

A measley 100%? pfft. 100% is nowt these days man, havent you heard? its all about the million percent these days.

Yes but Laudrup didn't support either of those sides as a boy. Campbell I'm not so sure but was at Spurs from a young age. As for Gardner, yes you have a point but we appear to be less forgiving up here as we have already been fucked over by two Newcastle supporting players. Although, no one could argue that they didn't play their part (especially Clark who was a die hard mag).

Either way, if it goes through we've got to get behind the skunky bastard. Any chants on the go yet? Please not "He's one of our own"...although it's inevitable isn't it?

I was originally not in favor of him signing partly due the mags link partly down to him as a player.

Having sat back thought about it looked at our squad over the last week or so he will be a welcome addition in my eyes.

If the lad signs we need to get behind him not be on his case first chance we get.

But the anti geordie SAFC fans will be on his back regardless of how he starts for us.Theres a guy about 6 seats along from me gives Colback constant "geordie bastard" flack,no matter how he plays.Thats what makes it a more risky signing.Plus he's a bit thick. He should have kept his feelings about Sunderland to himself, regardless of what he did actually say.

90% of the fan base doesn't equate to a few clueless dullards on here daft lad.

Lets give the lad a f***ing chance eh?

Aye but to be fair Colback is ginger man.

Most reasonable sensible Sunderland fans can see this a decent signing

It honestly worries me that grown men with families can still get annoyed that he supported the mags, grow up man. Think he will be excellent and Im really surprised the mags aren't in for him

It's never just been about that Johnson, he made a comment or two about Sunderland and having been disrespected by Clark and Chopra in the past, people have their reservations. It's just as easy to understand than it is to udnerstand your point of view.

Let's face it, he will be affected by the derby be it positively or negatively. We can only hope he is professional about it. Chopra didn't hold back in either game (apart from that shot that people believe he bottled and purposely mis-passed to Jones).
