Danny Drinkwater

Read the interview he did recently where he talked about his downfall. Think the gist of it was the he won the league with Leicester, won England caps and got a big money move to Chelsea which went to his head. Then after his first year Sarri pulled him in with an hour to go before the deadline and told him he had no future and had a deal lined up with a foreign club but he'd just had a kid on London and didn't want to go abroad. He was completely bombed out, training with the U23s with a load of money and time on his hands so went out drinking all the time but soon got bored of the lifestyle, got depressed and did bad things (crashed his car drink driving, got chinned while out on the drink on loan at Burnley and had a fight with a team mate on loan at Villa).

Said he'd thought he'd sorted his head out and wanted to knuckle down at Reading and thought he could flip a switch and he back to his best but his body wasn't doing what he wanted it to do which frustrated him but he found some form towards the end.

Seemed to take a lot of responsibility for his career going down the pan and doing wrong whilst acknowledging the trigger was the way he'd been treated by Sarri.

Still, it's a no for me - too much baggage, questionable attitude and drink/fitness problems. He could well have a lot to offer still but it's exactly the type of player we're looking to avoid under Speakman.

Don't shoot the messenger but I hear this is being looked at. Would add some much needed experience to our midfield and he is a former PL winner.

Apparently he gets on really well with Danny Batth. When they get together they call them "The Two Danny's" or "Danny Drink-Bath-Water"

Didn't play much at Chelsea so plenty of miles in those legs yet.
Absolute car crash

In 2019 he got done for drink driving and also got injured while scrapping outside a nightclub the same year. Last season is the first season in 5 years he's played regularly. Can't say I watched many Reading games to judge where he is now at ability wise.
DARREN!

It's a yes from me, he's not a Jack Rodwell type-character, just someone who needed to get his career back on track and he's proven this last season with Reading. There's no doubt he's decent at this level and it's a position we need badly; the type of CM player DN/09/Matete would thrive playing alongside with top Premier and international experience. Same age as Cory Evans I think and would add quality
& experience where we need it.

Actually the beer was significantly better than the water back then.

In fact that’s why they drank so much beer... it was safer ! Think it became installed into the DNA and was reflected on Friday nights for centuries.
A Drinkwater was probably revered because of his constitution 😉

If he had done that well at Reading then surely they would have wanted him back?

I've never thought he was that good tbh, even when winning the title at Leicester, Kante mainly did the job of two midfielders back then.

I don't think he'd be any better than Evans.

I’m not sure it’s even being discussed but if it was then surely there is a way of structuring a contract to minimise risk. He must have had something at one time.

I’m still trying to think of league one midfielders who impressed us, Camara and maybe Branagan but there must have been others.

Reading are skint.

The thread is clearly a joke. But just in case, no, no, no and absolute no.

The guy won the league and had the footballing gods drooling over him. And he was one of those that chose to fleece the situation.

He’s everything that is wrong with football, I don’t blame him he’s made for life, but if anyone thinks he’s the type of signing we’re looking for then wow!
