Dan Neil

Massive progress this season in his awareness of who is around him when he is in possession. Doing great.
I agree. He seems to have more time on the ball because he’s finding more space, is more aware of what’s around him.. that’s helping to reduce the errors in possession we were seeing last season and in turn he’s playing with more confidence.. helps having Ekwah next to him imo.. they’ll both keep getting better.

Eric Cantona once criticised his French international teammate, Didier Deschamps, as being ‘the water carrier’, suggesting that Deschamps didn’t really compare with their midfield colleagues, Viera, Pires, Ginola, etc.

However, Deschamps pointed out that every team needs a player who is capable of just keeping things ticking over, doing the unspectacular stuff, providing leadership, etc.

Deschamps led France in winning the World Cup in 1998 and European Championship in 2000. The undoubtedly more individually brilliant didn’t.

Dan Neil can be our Deschamps, enabling the likes of Ekwah, Clarke and Roberts to optimise their skills, often unspectacularly.

I get where you are coming from but he's better than a water carrier.

The interception before the fourth goal was the highlight of his performance for me. He was excellent.

Why does he blaze every shot with his strong foot thirty rows up but can strike it like that with his weak foot? His goal against Ipswich was with his left and his half volley against Burnley last year was with his left as well.
