Dalian Atkinson - Police on trial

So let's say we have this team, on call 24-7, in every town in the country, ready to go out. They have a database of every address that every person with mental health issues is associated to and they go to every and any call to said addresses on the off chance they can resolve whatever issue has arisen there. Including someone who is having a violent episode. Or has already stabbed someone for example. And bearing in mind police deal with hundreds of incidents like this safely every day if the year. This is what you advocate in all seriousness?
Regardless of all the ins and outs of what you're arguing with cm about surely you will admit that kicking and incapacitated man in the face is indefensible.

I'm advocating for the expansion of services of people that are specialised in helping people with mental health issues.

I'm also advocating for not tasing people so much they start cooking and not kicking them to death.

Didn't think I was being that controversial

If that is what happened, yes, it's indefensible.

In principle of course there should be additional and specialized training to assist people with mental health issues. To suggest the police shouldn't go to an incident like this one as the first responders is to show you haven't really thought it through.

Ah well, at least I wanted this incident to be investigated, eh

Assumed it was because of the article, and surprised if they worked together and no one twigged, but maybe not known officially. If it was, I don't think they should have been working together.
One of those worse kept secrets that the top officers just can't be asked to investigate or bother about, and with their work load you can understand why it goes unnatended.

not being funny but how did they leave imprints of shoelaces on his face? How does that actually happen when they are on the top of the shoe

tragic case all around, hopefully justice is carried out

not really sure what the relevance of that is with leaving footprint traces on Atkinson but never mind

Eh? You mentioned shoelaces yourself. Fairly self-explanatory how lace imprints ended up on his head. Or are you being deliberately daft here as normal?

just flabbergasted by the violence of it, disgusting from the two officers
You asked how it's possible for kicking someone to leave laces imprinted when kicking someone. That's how.

Not taking a full swing so hard you leave imprints of your docs on an incapacitated man's forehead might be a start. Face it the most likely explanation is the black guy scared the cop, the cop lost his temper after he got him down and the cop lost his control.
I'd agree with that but I'd add in a lot of fear as well. The angle that is being spun by many is that the two cops set out on their shift thirsty for blood and intent on using their position as a foil to satisfy their sadistic urges.

He literally answered your question.

The law of averages says everyone will at some point cock up in their job: Professional drivers can have accidents, kill and mame yet not be prosecuted.
Why? Because the incidents are deemed accidental / or at worse manslaughter, as stress and other conditons are taken into account. So in the interest of fairness, should the same sympathetic angle be taken in this partiicular case?

Possibly but let us see a guilty plea first. I'm not baying for blood here but if you have tasered someone for half a minute and then beaten his unresponsive body amd hoofed him in the head you have had at best a mental break.

You clearly have no clue regarding the police recruitment process if you think that those now employed are a bunch of thickies. Most are now educated to degree level and once accepted have to complete a three year degree in policing to complete their probation .
Whether that emphasis on education makes for a good cop is open for debate and I personally think it doesn’t . I would prefer officers to be practical , have common sense and good people skills rather than have degrees coming out their arseholes.
With regard to the case being discussed ,if the officers involved in this case have overstepped the mark they should be dealt accordingly but to label a whole organization due to the actions of a few is ridiculous.
What degree?

Agree with this.

The Taser was cycled a further five times. Whether or not it was effective is another thing entirely. Just because a Taser is used it doesn’t necessarily follow that the probes connected with the target and the circuit was completed. For all we know, the Taser may have been completely ineffective.

The prosecution contends that they discharged the Taser into him for 33 seconds. If the evidence shows that's what happened it's pretty damning
