All depends on what you want to do really. Commute? 20 miles at weekends to get fit? How much are you paying.

I bought a cheap second hand bike for £30 when I started cycling again. Once I knew I was going to do a lot of cycling to and from work I splashed out on a decent bike with cycle to work. Just bought a new one and the performance difference is measurable as I’m also cycling much more.

Spec not great, but then again how much is it costing and as someone else says what’s the intended sort of riding ?

Yeah sure:
It's all very subjective. It looks fine but not particularly good value for money. Do you know what size frame you need ? Makes a huge difference if you get the wrong size, I'm guessing it'll be a mail order job.

A good article..... The best cheap road bikes 2019: 8 great choices for £600 or less

...the top one is from Decathlon. I'd highly recommend you actually sit on the bike you are thinking of buying, whatever you go for. Take your time and get what fits you and your budget.

Very expensive for that spec...get a brand new bike from Planet X or Decathlon for the same price but several levels up spec wise.

This is an example..https://www.planetx.co.uk/c/q/bikes/road-bikes/rt-58-alloy?utm_source=masonrybanner&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=MASRT58A

Great, thank you. Got plenty of Decathlons here (Germany) so could pick one up there easy. Any suggested models from Decathlon?

Yeah 58cm is what I need. Will check that advice out. Really appreciate it.

They’ve changed their models...their Triban range is what I’d look at

Quite a few bike sales don’t. More so for road bikes as they tend to use cleats which are to individual preference, therefore reducing the price of the bike by a component which will likely be removed before use anyway.

They don’t come with pedals because they are then classed as custom built, all new bikes other than custom built ones need to come fitted with a bell under some EU law, this circumvents that. Another good reason for brexit.
Don’t buy a road bike. Everyone will hate you and you will look gay.

He would only need to buy a mountain bike if he is a fattie who needs the extra support
