Custom Pc- Help needed

My son has saved like a trooper to get himself a gaming pc. I'm clueless on this sort of stuff. So it's mainly for gaming, he has £600 saved and we'll pay for the rest. Any recommendations? Where should we go? What cost do you estimate?
He's 14 btw, if that makes a difference

Let's be honest you can double that budget and you're still gonna struggle to get a top end machine, serious gpu shortages atm and scalers pushing the prices up means now is a bad time to buy.
This unfortunately. It’s very difficult to buy a gaming pc, especially on a budget. I would wait until next year or buy an Xbox/ps5 if you can find one.

That’s from someone also looking to build a high end gaming pc.

If you are adamant that it needs to happen then a prebuilt one might be the way to go from:

The shortages won't get any better any time soon, the next generation of GPUs will probably be out before them.

They are becoming available for retail prices but you have to be quick and probably need to use some kind of stock alert.

Pre built is probably the way to go, this one isn't too bad for the money Ryzen 5 5600X + RTX3060 + 1TB SN550 NVME + 16GB + B550 WIFI £1200.00 From Palicomp. - hotukdeals

dont bother buying a windows key from any of the stores if that is a aditional charge just get one from ebay for around £5.

slightly older hardware but this one isnt bad either

if your a member of costco they have had some decent systems in recently.

if this comes back in stock its well worth the price in the current climate

the term "gaming PC" is also pretty subjective, all depends on what he wants to play, but you have to consider that might change in future.

Find out what games he wants to play and also what will you be plugging it into?

The monitor/tv will make a difference to what you need to spend, as if its a 4K LG OLED for example, it's going to need some oomph to push out at full resolution. But if you are going to run on a smaller monitor with a lower refresh rate/resolution then you won't necessarily need to spend as much (as it doesn't need as much power)

I've just had a stock alert email from Box.co.uk for an RTX3080 GPU. When these cards first came out in September last year the RRP was around £600. They are asking £1699.99 now. Absolutely f**king ridiculous price.

which 3080 was it, the RRP for around £680 was only for the founders edition which you can only get from scan. If its from box it would of been a AIB card and they were always more expensive.

Be careful with window keys. I got one no bother but when trying to buy them for mates had loads of bother with rip off merchants. They aren't as easy to find as they used to be

Price increasing faster than Bitcoin!

I have a 2060, and even those are selling now for nearly double what I paid for it.
I'd be tempted to sell it, but it saves me loads of time in image processing and video rendering.

ebay seems to be cracking down on them, I got one that didnt work but had no problems getting a refund.

I got one from pixel codes, and I see a lot of people recommending that instead, they are still only around £4

Pallit Geforce. £1699.99 is still far too much, it's profiteering at it's worst. Fortunately i managed to get a AMD Saphire RX 6800 XT a few months ago and i'm more than happy with it's performance.

. My son is wanting one, my first choice would be to buy all the parts and teach him how to build one but that has been completely ruined by the gpu prices. Unfortunately youd probably looking at £1500 at least just for the base unit then you have a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Expensive game this gaming pc business

Looks likely to be end of this year if not into 2022 for both PC and console parts shortages. You'd then think they'll be a period of further instability with prices. Grim.

Im still rocking a 760(which I got off a kind chap on here). Prices have gone f***ing mental even for second hard cards. I’ve been looking at a rx580 second hand and the prices are around £400 ffs

Would people go for a ryzen 7 3700x or the 5800x?
Definitely 5800x. Without going in to the technical details, especially if you are a gamer.

Personally I’m fine with this, but for the fullness of information. There are expectations that the AMD architecture is changing on CPU and motherboards in 2022. First time in quite a few years. New version of RAM being one of the reasons. For the last few years you could switch out CPUs and keep the same motherboard and RAM due to being the same family of parts. You wouldn’t be able to do that after next year. If you are like me and don’t plan on changing your pc much for 5 years then it makes no difference.
