Gardner?
Yeah but the point isn't that everywhere has bad areas is it ?

What has Sunderland got going for it over Newcastle ? (Genuine question if anyone can give a single reason ) :

-not on a major train line so lacking in quick access to London for work
- no major nightlife scene
- an embarrassment of a city centre
- no investment from local government
- no high end suburbs
- no nationally recognised shopping centre

Sunderland is a city which has none of the advantages of living in a city
And everywhere has nice areas
Sunderland has a nice coastline as already mentioned and has some nice opulent areas like other cities. As I've said the centre has a lot to be desired, but that isn't the point. I still don't know why so called fans were so keen to change the subject and turn this around for an opportunity to slag Sunderland off. Using your criteria we can't laugh at winning 3-0 because we once lost 5-1
Gateshead has a nationally recognised Shopping Centre, Gateshead has a Hilton Hotel, Gateshead has a magnificent music venue, it has some decent restaurants, it is home to a recognised monument, it is now getting investment from local government and despite what others might think it has the added advantage of not being in Newcastle and historically being in County Durham . However it would seem the big wigs of the North East want to swallow it as a suburb of Newcastle.

What has Gateshead got to do with anything ?

I've said before council to blame for Sunderland city centre state
Sunderland like others lost out under the old Tyne and Wear county council which was pro scumsville
In my view Sunderland council needs to promote invest and get a city centre Sunderland people can be proud of
I'm North Shields born and bread so no affiliation to Sunderland bar the fact my beloved team are Sunderland AFC which I've supported since 1971
It gets on my tits when people say the boat goes from ncle to Amsterdam piss off the boat gans fron North Shields to Amsterdam and not f***ing scumsville and like Sunderland we have a council which hasn't a bloody clue how to promote themselves
By the way North Shields is dump too

I know it's not much to do with SAFC but rant over.

Haway the lads at the weekend!

Haway man I'm easily the most sophisticated traveler on here and there's nowt a matter with the city of Newcastle like, where do all these footballers come from like? Paris is nice but dirty.

England has the best toilets in the world
France's holes in the ground are canny for what they are like

Strange that people seem to despise the City of Sunderland yet support the football team, all very bizarre but it's very common with our "Geordie" supporters. Cretins.

You are consistently and strangely obsessed with people from Tyneside.

I was born on Tyneside and attended my first game in 1960. Still got a season card and I don't despise the city of Sunderland as you say we Geordies do. It was part of me growing up as a young supporter. I like both cities but Newcastle will always have the greater pull as that's where I'm from. Because I'm not from Sunderland, I'm not a Mackem. I don't shout Ha'way. I'm a Tyneside born Sunderland supporter and there's thousands of us. Your statement is an insult.

I'm a cretin? We'll still be here long after you're gone.

Tyneside. The backbone of Sunderland support

This topic comes up on a almost weekly basis in this forum, people from outside Sunderland displaying their hatred for the City that the football club plays in, the latest bellend to do this is this @C14R4NSAFC

I will always stick up for my hometown and I don't really give two fucks if you don't like it.

I said "possibly" mainly because I wouldn't know why anyone would want to change the whole tack of the thread as you did, just to slag Sunderland off. I still wouldn't know what side of the North East of the divide you come from but why you were so quick to jump to Newcastle's defence still baffles me. I reckon most people on here would agree that Newcastle is a far better city than Sunderland, but fuck me "Kill to live there". I realise that you didn't utter those immortal words, but perhaps you could understand why a few on here would sit in their "glass houses and have a dig" as you put it.
You see the thread was about Ginola's wife whinging about Newcastle, she never, as far as I'm aware finished off by saying, "But at least it is better than Sunderland", which a few precious mag wannabe's have.
So whilst I agree Sunderland isn't a great city for the stuff you have mentioned, it isn't the worst place I have been and isn't exactly the topic of the thread. I'm also a little unsure as to why you got so upset about it, but it takes all sorts I suppose

Which side of the NE divide i come from? As said, I've lived in Sunderland all my life and supported SAFC all my life. I'm a season ticket holder. I'm pretty secure about where my allegiances are. I despise NUFC as much as anyone (although I'm a bit too grown up to resort to some of the trivial shite aimed at them on here or even at the match.)
True Ginola's missus didn't mention Sunderland but the short-sighted kids can't resist mocking in their ignorant pursuit of one-upmanship. To jump on this band wagon is small town little sunderlander mentality. That's what I'm not a part of.
I actually find it a bit rich for you to be lecturing me about the current state of my home town, be it negative or positive, when you don't even reside here yourself!!! But like you say, it takes all sorts I suppose.

Calm down son ! I have no reason to not like sunderland as a place , when have I ever said this ?

I wasn't aware that you had to live somewhere to have an opinion, that fucks up the poster who has been agreeing with you on here
So with that in mind, I find it a little bit rich that you accuse "short sighted kids of mocking in their ignorant pursuit of one one-upmanship", then you "jump on the band wagon" yourself and do the same. Double whammy if you ask me

I'm not on any bandwagon or crusade to make cyber buddies either. You can have your opinion of my hometown city center just as I have of Newcastle city centre (be it your hometown or not). I just think that speaking my opinion about my hometown's inferiority carries more substance than an opinion of someone who doesn't live here. But you're still welcome to it.

I very much doubt you live in the city centre like. I've spent more of my life in Sunderland despite not living there. I drank there throughout my youth, I've worked there and living where I do it is easier to get to for me. Just because you live in a suburb of Sunderland it doesn't give your opinion any more substance than mine
Again though you've still missed the point that this was fuck all to do with Sunderland until you and your cronies got all precious about it. You then have the audacity of accusing the others small time mentality and being trivial
You couldn't make it up, oh you probably did
