And everywhere has nice areasGardner?
Yeah but the point isn't that everywhere has bad areas is it ?
What has Sunderland got going for it over Newcastle ? (Genuine question if anyone can give a single reason ) :
-not on a major train line so lacking in quick access to London for work
- no major nightlife scene
- an embarrassment of a city centre
- no investment from local government
- no high end suburbs
- no nationally recognised shopping centre
Sunderland is a city which has none of the advantages of living in a city
Sunderland has a nice coastline as already mentioned and has some nice opulent areas like other cities. As I've said the centre has a lot to be desired, but that isn't the point. I still don't know why so called fans were so keen to change the subject and turn this around for an opportunity to slag Sunderland off. Using your criteria we can't laugh at winning 3-0 because we once lost 5-1
Gateshead has a nationally recognised Shopping Centre, Gateshead has a Hilton Hotel, Gateshead has a magnificent music venue, it has some decent restaurants, it is home to a recognised monument, it is now getting investment from local government and despite what others might think it has the added advantage of not being in Newcastle and historically being in County Durham . However it would seem the big wigs of the North East want to swallow it as a suburb of Newcastle.
