Crowd for Spurs

See the GNR people are having a go at Sunderland for the game being on just after the GNR.

Not sure if it is the clubs fault given the power of sky and the premier league. That said when has Brendan foster and the jordi Illuminati have overall power of the transport system in the NE.

The game was moved to the day of the GNR not the other way round. SAFC could have objected and refused to allow it given the nightmare it's going to be for some people when you've got the best part of half a million people supporting a run and road closures throughout a borough that is on the doorstep of the club. And the game is not on just after the GNR, the GNR starts at 9am and finishes at 5pm.

Well put it this way.

My employer is a partner of SAFC and gets a couple of hundred free tickets for each home game, these are dished out on a first come first served basis... (And before anyone asks, I'm a season ticket holder...:lol:)

Work announced yesterday that they had received another batch of free tickets which they did not expect, again another couple of hundred.

This would suggest to me that ticket sales are not going well... Could be wrong like..

Worrying

Booked tickets last night, driving down from Edinburgh. Did not realise it was GNR day - likely to cause any traffic problems?

Do people think our club is the only one which does this ? That is why corporates partner and pay shed loads to clubs. Ironically over the years ive had/seen more free tickets flying around for the emirates, old trafford and celtic park than any other stadiums. Why do you think whenever there is an arsenal game on the tv - which is officially a sell out - there is obviously about 5,000 empty seats.

We seem to be the only club where fans have a problem with this. As it happens i am certain there will be circa 40k at the game on sunday.

This ^^^ even Man Utd don't sell out every week. Arsenal never ever have a full house. the police figures show they are generally 5k+ down on footfall most games.

When did I say it's a problem FFS....? typical judgemental SMB fruit loop!

How many are we expecting?

Nathan?

Really looking forward to the game for the first time in a long time. Hopefully the players wont let us down?!!!!

If you are Sunderland fan of long-standing what makes you think the players (especially ATM the defence) will not let us down?

Err the GNR is also on plus we are on Murdoch vision plus we have been crap so not a big crowd low 30s thousands

The point Im making with the power of Sky and the premier league Sunderland my have been in a difficult situation to move the game contractually. Additionally the club receives £1m for a live game I believe.

It may have made more sense to move the game but surely the traffic infastructure can cope plus £1m in our position is a a lot of money to turn down to keep a few jordis happy.

On the whole, fair points. The club is not to blame here, no more than any other club who are told when the kick off is to be. There have been countless reasons over the years why the club and its supporters have been inconvenienced by a moved kick off - admittedly the GNR is a more compelling reason than most, but Sky simply don't care.

On a selfish level I would rather we never played on a Sunday. In simple terms we take the Sky millions and have to work by their/Premier League rules.

I know the GNR organisers and I know they are really pissed off about it and have made representations to Sky, but there was no budging them.

Switching our game with the Leicester v Villa game at 4pm would seem to have been a sensible solution and for all we know the club may have asked for this as well. I'm sure they would have preferred the later kick off time.

So as usual there is a lot of frustration about, but as is quite commonly the case any anger is aimed in the wrong direction.

i did not say you did. there are almost bi weekly threads on this site complaining about promotions and corporates and 'free tickets'. By definition if your firm is a partner they are not 'free'

Agree. I would guess some common sense...sadly common sense is not that common.

The GNR is a good event in which I have ran many times. I just did not like the tone of the GNR people blaming the Club over the timing of the game when in essence the Club has very little influence.

FFS how many fans do the run?
Anyway the ones that are why can't they just give their ticket to someone else?

It's not as simple as that. More traffic/people slows up the whole day. Also I bet loads are driving family members about & putting up friends from down South, stuff like that.
