Criticism of O'Neill's approach

In that time, four of our central defenders will be retired. There will be other problems that will take precedence. There are too many problems that need sorting now. We could easily go back down by then, top ten they are having a laugh.

The quality of our incoming transfers needs to prove from the last window.

I'm talking one year from now when o neill will have had just over two years in charge. Hopefully things will have improved

Mate said to me yesterday, i wish i didnt like football, couldnt disagree with him tbh. The style of play seems to be wearing people down, i can see a fair few who are currently struggling with coin might be turned away. Im a mon fan but his unwillingness to go for games safety first and surrendering the pitch is starting to great a bit.

Looking at what he has just bought, it's hard to see that happening. The system allows the opposing team to come at us and we are not good enough to play that way. It's just like asking them to score and in most games they do.

As I said elsewhere, I know quite a few season card holders who are not attending.

Not only that but the team is fundamentally bereft of even the most basic skills. The passing was, as ever, woeful. Especially from the point of view of the link-up from one player to another. The ball is passed anywhere but where it needs to be. And the team have this raving fear of going forward. They probably think some scary football monster with three heads and two arses is going to eat them up. It wasn't till we brought Graham on that we actually attacked R**ding. Johnson played his best football once we brought on Graham. But only for a bit.

Is it safe to assume that we are now allowed to debate how we play without being branded mags or bedwetters?

the lack of pace and the ability to get in and create chnaces in the last third of the pitch has been an issue for a long while. this window presented MoN the chance to start addressing these problems , yet again its been passed over.

what compounds a problematic situation is that the scum would appear to have done what we should have done that is plug obvious gaps for little outlay in terms of fees, where as we have seemed to go for squad level type players.

swansea and reading games the first team ;like so many times this season have often drifted thru games with little creativity, no real urgency and little win too win or real aggression.

we are not safe yet recent performances you'd think the first team thinks we are, are they in holiday mode already... nothing to play for?

many seem to rather obsess about graham mag connection rather than look at the real issues, like why isn't MoN grasping the nettle and getting next level type players... or at least ones with pace

dont understand that quote mate , why are you a fan when since he came his football has been lethargic at best , do you mean as in a person because as a football manager im not a fan

So we're not good enough to play that way? Why have we kept the second most clean sheets in 2012, only behind Man City? We're plainly better than just about everyone else at playing that way according to the facts.

However don't let the facts get in the way of a good whinge.

It is not solely down to O'Neill's tactics. It is down to the quality of player we have in the side.

Just look at the mags, they wanted Pardew out a few games ago. Some may still do but the issue Pardew had (which I pointed out to midds a few weeks ago) is that they simply did not have the quality. They have strengthened and have beaten Villa away (a 6 pointer) and Chelsea at home. I'm sure many of their fickle fans will have changed their minds about him already.

We have had some cracking wins of late but we're our own worst enemy. We are slowly but surely being dragged back into the mess. Home games against Swansea and away games against Reading are our bread and butter. Granted, Swansea actually played some great stuff at times but Reading looked a shocking team. They were there for the taking and we actually had the chances to have won the game but failed to capitalise.

But to break it down simply, we have failed to strengthen in the transfer window. It's early days for N'Diaye but my early thoughts on him aren't great. Graham has effectively been brought in as back-up as I can't see O'Neill changing the formation any time soon. Mangane?? Again, probably back-up. We needed first team players to walk through the door. The club have failed to bring in quality and as such, we will be battling right up until the end of the season. Do we have any ambition?

I know I have mentioned the mags here but let's face it, they are our rivals and as we're in a similar position it's not unheard of to compare our progression. We're still ahead of them in the table but for how long? We've brought in N'Diaye for £3m, they've brought in Sissoko for £2.5m what the? He was rated at £20m or something only last season. I'm sure his value will have rocketed up, so much so in a month or so's time he'll probably be worth £10m and rising. Why didn't we try to gazump them? Why didn't we offer more wages?

I don't know what our scouts are playing at.

god post mate and from the heart , the highlighted bit was almost promised by MON , the result was poor

I wrote this season off weeks ago but im willing for MoN to have another crack at putting things right next season.

Well thats if he brings a quality midfielder and defender in.

Great post - as for the bit in bold. Money and philosophy. Ashley has one eye on the money and the club has adopted a very sensible approach of seeking value in the transfer market, which can appreciate in the PL. They also have the benefit of making more money than us.

hopefully we can get through the season without it turning sour and see what happens in the summer.

roll on next season cos this one is so depressing!

Why are we always limping towards the next transfer window though, I don't agree with the argument that is Bruce's team etc, O'Neill was brought here to motivate as well as revamp the squad.

To me, it doesn't look like he can motivate and will only buy success hence we need to get to his 4th window.

Talking of transfers, I still can't believe he didn't buy a right back and a creative central midfield player, our team is crying out for quality on both positions.

spot on

feels like weve fucked up, think we'll limp along to stay up.
but this season has been another wash out...

big expectations on MoN, questions are being asked as yet no real answers provided.

We are a mid-table team, which means we have a tendency to be shit one week and ok the next, people were craving such mediocrity a season or two ago.

We are desperately frustrating to watch when we have one of our off days, which usually coincides with us being 20 yards too deep for the entire game.

I think that is pretty simple to answer really. We don't generate the income the Mags do and they pay more in wages as a result. The club us losing money hand over fist and you can't expect Ellis Short to keep ploughing money in ad infinitum.

But this sitting deep thing....why isn't it addressed? We see/hear of oniell going mad at them to get out......but it keeps happening.

We won't be mid table for much longer with performances like yesterday and against Swansea

I can count that on 1 finger never mind one hand

we are playing some of the most dire football i have ever seen and I'm sick of it.

Exactly how I feel , we are awful to watch , thought we were poor on Tuesday but yesterday we were even worse I thought

We never win the 2nd ball , we are too slow to get the ball out wide and by the time we do they have defensive cover , there is no movement .. The team is static , and it's shit to watch

But this sitting deep thing....why isn't it addressed? We see/hear of oniell going mad at them to get out......but it keeps happening.

We don't have the players to play further up the pitch. We are bereft of pace and the defence is horrendously slow, a problem exasperated by the full backs being midfielders.

Vaughan is a Championship player and Larrson will never ever be a central midfielder. The manager knows they are not very good, hence why we are playing like we are.

there are too many off days , can count on one hand how many games i have enjoyed as a football spectacle this season

Been a desperate season, but we have shipped some dead wood out and it will continue in the summer. We only have so much to spend, takes time. Next season will be better, no doubt.
