Cricket and the Nazis

Interesting read, especially the bit about the German captain punching his fielders for dropping catches.

It reminds of my favorite lines from Dad's Army

"The Nazis don't play cricket, Wilson. If they did, we wouldn't be on opposite sides now"

Richard Williams, one of the players, later recalled their departure. "We were lucky and glad to get to the station." As well as detecting the sinister atmosphere, some players were annoyed by gamesmanship from the Germans. Robinson complained: "I was run out in the match to-day by the bowler. He never bowled the ball and ran me out as I backed up. He never warned me."

Hitler-esque tactics from the Sri-Lankans the other night!

Love stuff like this - beating the German's at cricket is never mentioned in our banter when we play them at football. Mebbies we should revisit some of our songs . Mind, typical of us to send a spy who stood out like a sore thumb anarl.
