Marcos Angeleri

Loved that bloke. Had a man crush on him from day 1

We got beat 7-2 everyone was crap. The lineup was a shambles from the start.

Agreed.

And FWIW, I agree that it's a bit harsh to call Cana crap. His performance at home to Liverpool was superb and he started very well. However, he tailed right off and was displaced and kept out of the team by Meyler. His departure also left a bitter taste.

I agree.

Have it on good authority his knees were fucked for the 2nd half of the season.

Great info, and sad to read. Did that three game run include a 3-0 against Chelsea, where Russell scored a deflected long shot? And Bally met a Gray cross with the best flying header I've ever seen? Or did I just dream it all?!

Off the top of my head the three games were two draws (one against Sheff Wed) and a win (against Everton, Bridges 2, Russell 1?) can't recall the other one. Nothing world beating but steady results. All from memory like so I could be out a touch

We have had some dross over the years but are there any players who despite being average at best, you liked.

Nyron will be top of the list but Higginbottom seemed to wear his heart on his sleeve.

kevin ball...100% Heart,effort and menace.....Zero skill..love the fella!

I know he played loads as a sub (about 20 IIRC) but in the first Premiership season he only started about 9 games and he was joint top scorer on 4 IIRC. He wasn't the answer to all our woes, but Reid playing the midfield of Ball and Bracewell in the top flight, with Stewart up front and Agnew wide it's amazing we scored any goals at all. Russell with a bit of pace would have been an improvement on what we were often playing, but for some reason Kelly, Stewart and Mullen seemed to get more chances in various roles without delivering. We enjoyed our best sequence of results over the season in the 3 game spell Russell, Rae and Smith played, but none were given a decent run.

Also think Frank Clark playing him left wingback in a Citeh side plummeting down the leagues did his career no favours either. That and a few injuries more or less put paid to it.

It amazes me that that team got 40 points TBH.
