Craft Beer

Cheers. Will call in for a couple of hours as part of my wandering.
Has anyone been to the town mouse in Heaton called the house.

It is in an old shop with fewer beers and when I was in on a Saturday night it was full of braying students.

Not impressed. I prefer the Heaton tap up that way.

Went to Indy Man yesterday, feeling remarkably fresh today! Beer lineup is drastically weaker than it was a few years back but still a great day out.

Went to Joule in Salford after, lovely bar that and the beer selection is class. Picked up a trillium imperial stout while pissed which sounds tremendous.
I was pouring beers for Lost and Grounded and Kirkstall on Saturday. Canny day out like, the venue is easily the best I've been to for an event like that, good fun.

Spent most of Saturday evening drinking Tommie Sjef and Mills beers. All superb. At 33 quid a bottle they were definitely the better value for money options too!

I have and I like it. Not as much as the Mouse mind (although its nit trying be the same. It does some excellent wines. Seems like your evening was knackered by the students rather than the venue. Elder Cafe is certainly worth a visit.

Aye it was the students and I think it would be better on another night. I’ve been in Elder cafe and was impressed

Had a dodge down Darlo recently for a day out. Got two or three cracking little micro pubs. Orb was probably the pick of them. Craftys another good un, has a cracking little outdoor area to have a drink.

You get over the Railway Quarter in Gateshead much? Excellent spot that now with three cracking pubs within seconds of each other and the new wine bar is also good.

We sat beside where they were pouring the Tommee Sjef on Friday for quite while, saved a fair few steps I reckon.

I have been a couple of times . Really enjoyed microbus, Axis was decent but lacking in atmosphere and Station East is ok too. The Central is great but could be so much better. So much room and they do so little with it.

Fairy nuff. I'm a massive fan of Central. Such a beautiful pub. Doing more with it may risk its charm and bring in a different clientele. Know what you mean about Axis. We opt for that as a later evening one, seems most go there last of the route.

Has anyone got any shouts for decent bars or breweries in Amsterdam? I'm aware of all the Belgian wheat beers you can get out there but after more IPAs/stouts etc that you get here

Oedipus brewery is great. As is Walhalla very close by. Both in Amsterdam Noord and easy to get to.

Good shouts above. A few hours in Noord is worth it for taprooms. Definitely check out one of the Café Gollem's. Very good beer selection. Troost is worth a visit as well if you go to De Pijp (and you should go there anyway, good night out).

I'll always recommend visiting Brouwerij 't IJ too. You can get their beers in what feels like every bar going but their taproom under a windmill is a must. Get a tasting board. Their triple and wit are both topper. I would stick to the traditional styles there as they do them pretty well. Hop forward stuff, not so much.

I nearly tagged you but thought you'd reply anyway. I assumed you would be well placed to answer 😂

I've always got eyes on this thread. :)

I'm actually quite out of touch now for Amsterdam, sadly! Not been over for a while. Last time in NL we opted for a long weekend in Rotterdam which I'd strongly recommend like, but only if you're willing to hire a bike and cycle about. Tons to do, and lots of good beer, but it's quite spread out so having a bike to dot around is essential to get under the skin of the city.

If @JackL is over there for more than a weekend then I'd recommended going to Haarlem. 10 mins on the from Amsterdam, stunning place and plenty of good pubs/bars, plus two breweries.

Just two nights unfortunately. Cheers for the advice, building up quite a nice list of bars to visit now!

Working ones way through the offerings at The Stables. Not ground breaking but a solid line up.

Couple of Two by Twos offerings down and just got an Almasty Green. Got another on (Aghan) that I shall sample. Will also get amongst the bitter from Wear Beer (really enjoyed their stout).

What two by two offerings did you have? Love that brewery.
