There will be a lot of backbench MPs who do very little for that £80k, other than deliver votes for the government

The problem is if there aren't competent people to oppose them then they will continue to win. Houghton MP Bridgit Phillipson gets alot of stick. The Facebook politicians saying we need to vote Labour out etc yet she hasn't ever had a decent candidate from any party to run against. It will be the same in saft Tory seats. Nobody good enough to inspire people to vote differently.

It is but too many MPs are involved in big companies for that to ever happen.

I think Priti Patel should be classing herself as unskilled really. Not seen her offer anything to suggest otherwise.

The quality of the opposition candidate is largely irrelevant as most people just vote along party lines. Bridget is local & well educated, and has impressed the leadership enough to get a shadow ministerial position.
