The ECB will try again in another two years.

They need the reduction in matches so that they can accommodate the extra eighteen 16.4 games when they create two new franchises in 2029.

As Mike Atherton once said - if you ask the question enough times you eventually get the answer you want.

Derbyshire, Essex, Glamorgan, Gloucestershire, Middlesex, Nottinghamshire, Somerset, Surrey and Yorkshire named as the 9 counties who voted against the 13 match "compromise" in a 9-9 vote against change for 2026.
