Could the pitch be lowered?

Correct. 7 metres below ground level iirc from the tour when it was being built.
Correct. Always thought the pitch was " miles " from the seats. Perhaps this was because the stadium design was cheaper this way rather than having tight corners.
For a relatively modest cost the South Stand could be reprofiled, made higher and steeper but without the extra tier of the North Stand.
The South and East stands look crap inside and out.

I’ve been swept along down there before when I went for a half time piss. It’s cramped, dark and dingey.
It’s probably slightly less cramped than out the back of the Mainstand paddocks at Roker Park. All other areas at RP under the stands/ends were more spacious than that concourse.

The Mags could fill it, why not us? Are we inferior?
Well we can't fill 49k so what makes you think building it to 63k is the answer? Not sure what the mags have got to do with it?
Personally we should never have built the extension , I used to prefer the ground with a 42k capacity

On the off chance that we ever expand to 63k and that’s not enough could we dig the pitch further down into the land in order to get another couple of thousand seats in?

I know that ‘no question is a stupid question’ is often used in educational circles but I think this one tests the theory.

Pretty good question in my opinion. Would like to know if it would be possible myself.

I think the stadium is class and I hope I one day get to see it fully extended.

I’d remove the additional 4 rows that were put in at the back of the south and east stands, which would make the lower bowl look more packed.

They have more supporters.
You are correct. It'd change a bit if we had several years of European football like they did but they hit relative gold when Sky was first launching the Premier League and more were coming on board. They picked up loads at our expense.

So what do you think 63k will achieve? Serious question.
The stadium is built already, 49k is fine for us, the money it would cost to extend the ground could be better spent elsewhere, so we 'don't stagnate in our own shit'

It would look absolutely stunning like. Boxes down both sides, another BCB style thing for the south stand. It would look f***ing massive from outside too.

There was no space under the Fulwell, because it was an earth bank. There was also no concourse to speak of; mainly because there were no bars, only a few kiosks killing the health and safety disaster area pies and bovril.

Agreed, it was out the back rather than underneath the Fulwell. Was still less hemmed in and cramped though than the lower bowl concourses at the SOL as it was open air.

I agree, due to the fact anywhere else there would be 2 concourses, one at ground level, and one at half way up.in our ground we meet in the middle, which is actually at ground level. Huge savings on the build cost, but very impractical.

Other new built stadiums where the pitch is ground level don't have 2 concourses. They have small staircases to take you into the main bowl
