Could Sticking With Moyes Save Us?

Its a cliche but if I seen some fire in the bellies of him and the players hes in charge of Id fancy our chances of scraping by again.

Imo were far better than some sides well above us despite awful injuries, they just seem to want it more n be more organised, and that starts at the top.

Before everyone starts I'm not suggesting he's working miracles. But I'm going to argue it may be worth sticking to our guns.

It's well known in football that sticking with a manager generally gets better results. Crystal Palace recently changed their manager and results have actually got worse - with a supposed 'relegation specialist'. Leicester have just done the same and who's to say it will improve them? They could start doing even worse for all we know.

And before everyone jumps in with 'it needs to be the right manager' I read a stat on here today that since we lost in the FA Cup to Everton under O'Neil we have won 40 of 185 league games!!! This surely shows that even if you don't like him or are unsure, it is unfair to pin the blame on Moyes - because frankly we're not really doing anything different to what we normally do - regardless of the result tomorrow.
It might

The bloke has sucked every ounce of hope and passion out of me.

Next two games and the last two games (Arsenal likely to be in the last week of the season) leave us needing a probable 18 points from 27 to stay up. Can't see any manager achieving that so the question is do I want that negative twat telling me to lower my expectations in the Championship...and the answer is a resounding no.

Nope we are fucked regardless

There's no escaping the wrath of the football god's this season.

We've avoided their wishes for years now and every single positive this season is met with an immediate fireball.

This year is different though.

This is the year we haven't sacked a totally incompetent manager - we've hung onto one !!!

That's why we're screwed !!

We have to stick with a manager at some point and lets be honest here hes got a good a track record of any manager weve had ..so if we do drop out of the premier league i would say hes going to give us the best chance of bouncing back up in the 1st year ...imo of course

You think we'll need 37 points to stay up this season? Closer to 34/35 imo.

And why are you writing off those games? We've taken points in games we shouldn't have and come close in most others.

If moyes takes us down he will be tainted in my eyes. We have not beaten a team year that is any good. We need to start but unless we get some players back we will struggle

Lowest ever survival points total in PL history is 33......the average since the PL inception is 38.4......so I'm being a bit generous.

So far we've taken 0 points from the four reverse fixtures I mentioned and 2 out of a possible 27 against the top 7 clubs.

I admire your optimism though...

I have a bad feeling about this season and, if it happens, it will be tough next year due to our finances. But I'd rather start with Moyes next season whatever league we're in, and give him a crack from pre-season onwards to mould a team.
What makes you think Moyse will be here next season if we go down ?

I get the impression that Moyes and Bain have a good working relationship. The finances are a huge problem but they seem to be fairly solid as a pair despite this.

Who knows, Moyes could be sacrificed, but I'd be surprised if Bain didn't give him some time. Personally I'd rather Moyes was here at the start of next season because he at least will know the strengths and weaknesses of the players he would have at his disposal.

Financially we are in the shit. There are going to be 3 or 4 years of hard times (not necessarily in the Prem) buying cheap selling what we can. Moyes seems to have accepted this is so. Makes him the man for the job.

I remember standing upstairs while losing at Spurs a few years back singing "Don't worry about a thing.......". A lot of people thought we were down then and a lot of people think we're down now. They were wrong then and they may be wrong now.

Of the clubs at the arse end of this seasons Premier League there's a lot of clubs already played there dead cat bounce joker cards and we're still at their shoulders. They can't get any better but both us and Leicester can. Them for whatever reason whatever it is that's happened there this season and us because we've had as bad an injury list as I've known a team have.

We've been here before and all the clubs around us know that. We're Sunderland Association Football Club and we ARE the turd that won't flush.

Look at the league, 3rd bottom has 20 points, 4th bottom has 21. There's 13 games left, it's unlikely that 37 points will be required, usually a team is cut adrift by now, it seems a lot tighter this year.

We were close to points against City, Spurs (away), Liverpool, Chelsea. How can you just write off games? You should probably have followed the club for the last 4 years and you'd have learnt your lesson.
