Jon Lewis has been interviewed and said that he thinks the main motivation was for Coggers to play in the 1st Div rather than money. A bit odd because ok Notts are promoted but it's very easy to get relegated from there given the reduced size of the division ..... the last two winners of Div 1 are both in danger of doing exactly that, Middlesex in the year following their win.

He also said that Coggers had a release clause in his contract if Durham were in Div 2 for the 2018 season
and Keaton has the same.
Also they've been talking to Onions and his agent and they haven't yet come to an agreement on a new contract.

i thought he denied this at the members night recently?

Last time I looked Notts were second, only one team gets promoted. Notts 80-5 today with Worcester ironically playing Durham next week. How typical would it be if Worcester beat Durham to prevent Coughlin playing in division one...

that was just last season to change the respective div sizes

He did deny it but wasn't it at the time when there was speculation that Jenning would move for the start of this season? And even then I thought he said 'as far as I know' or 'I believe'.

And yea, two up two down recommences from this season.

no i mean the members evening last month, you might be right about phrasing though

Seems a bit of a punt by Notts given Coggers chronic injury record. He will have to stay injury free for most of next season just to stand a chance of breaking into their 1stXI. Something at the age of 25 he has been unable to do. If he does stay fit then he will then have to fulfill his potential. Maybe he will maybe he won't.

seems to be more of a white ball cricketer, given his injury record, but his bowling is ill suited.

i'm disappointed he's left, more because of what it says about durham currently, but player wise i don't think we're really missing that much.

he was very highly rated a few years back but i never really saw anything more than potential.

i don't really see it with burnham either but hope i'm wrong. that's another story anyhow.

Indeed. Wouldn't surprise me if he plays more Second XI cricket next season than First.

Aye Coggers was not an integral part of the side. He may have become one in time but that's not going to happen now. Was more impressed with his batting this season than his bowling. We will see how he gets on at Notts.

Any coincedence that the players who appear to be linked away in the press have the same agent?

Stoneman, Hart & Mustard last year, Coughlin & Onions this year
Stoneman was offered a much better deal at Surrey and has been justified in moving
Hart was offered derisory terms at Durham and chose to move away
Mustard was not offered another contract

Might all have the same agent but it's Durham who failed to offer them futures with the county with realistic deals

When Durham stop offering kids peanuts to stay at their local club then these guys might actually stay. The way the club treat contract negotiations is shocking........I would fully expect to be a contradiction in statements between this one and when onions leaves around loyalty etc etc
And your knowledge as to how much he was offered is?

Amazing how many people on here will take as gospel what the club statement says with regards to offering very good deals.....

Good luck Coggers
I've been one of his biggest supporters and championed the notion that I thought he'd go far in the game, I do however reserve the right to be partisan in my support for DCCC so in this regard he'll not get a good luck Coggers from me.

I dont doubt Durham dont pay that much, they also dont carry a very big squad..... butvthats what happens when you get into financial problems and dont forgrt the Ecb and the County Council want their money back and they cant be blamed for that.

Tho the ecb can be rightly blamed for other stuff.

Don't disagree with a lot of that but he has talent and sometimes you have to take a chance, Notts have decided to do that and Durham haven't. I can see both clubs point of view.

I think Durham have taken lots of chances already by sticking with him through a couple of big injuries. Then again by elevating him to captain for the T20.

As I say, I don't believe he's worth spending masses of money (that we don't have) on.

For a player with the injury record of Coughlin I think he's done pretty well out of Durham, don't you?

Then with regards Stoneman and Coughlin, I doubt they'd have been paupers had they stayed. Not to mention the club elevating them to captaincy. There's more to a persons future than their bank balance.
