Corruption or incompetence?

Corruption and coercion from the FA and the pressure the media put on leads to intimidated refs being incompetent. The Prem is not fixed per se, but it is horribly biased to the big clubs.

The call was beyond incompetence... and the fact it was on our home pitch is a spit in the face from Atkinson...

We're legs on the table... and this call will be given little scrutiny by anyone outside our faithful.

I can understand in a split second the referee could panic and blow his whistle without really thinking about it. Absolutely no excuse for not sending off Sagna though.

By not sending the player off the ref has shown he is not aware of basic rules and is not fit to take charge of a game

It was the worse refereeing display I've ever seen

Corruption. Been saying it for years.
Without wishing to accuse any particular individual. I have also said this for years . How much is 3 points worth in premier league football ? It is totally nieve to think that £20 k will not be flashed for an off side or a disallowed goal , it would happen in every other industry and their would be takers . Why would football be different ?
One day there will be am investigation into refs bank accounts , many will have assets far above their earnings without doubt ( or their wives , kids or brothers will )
Only it will never happen because it's a boys club from top to bottom . There will be a lines man or ref somewhere tonight with a new BMW , no suggestions who .

Should have been a sending off, but in fairness to the ref, he blew the whistle before Altidore looked like he would get back onto the ball, a good few seconds before the ball ended up in the net, so it was too late to play the advantage.

I've seen refs take 10 seconds to decide man. He should have waited until the phase of play was over. He was 1 on 1 ffs.

Indeed.

Imagine the lad had cleared off the line, we got a free kick and Gardner put it in the top corner. There'd be no issue.

The advantage rule is a difficult one.

Corruption doesn't even need to be discussed. Refereeing is a very very hard job. They do occasionally get things wrong.

Sending Di Canio off after that mistake is unbelievably arrogant and stupid. But he helped Arsenal, he will be praised

When the whistle blew he had his back to the ball, still scuffling, and the ball was rolling towards the line. It already looked like the "phase of play" was over.

Altidore did very well to get to it, but it all happened well after the whistle. The goalie and defender might have tried harder to stop it if he hadn't blown already, so the ref certainly couldn't change his mind at that point.

Even the slow mo posted on here only lasts 5 seconds from the tussle to the shot. You're talking bollocks. He massively jumped the gun and compounded the error by only showing a yellow.
