We stayed here the night after storm Anwen (sp) hit and was great, all locals were over as most had no power, the food was very good, and reasonably priced too

Was thinking visiting Duns but the pub there is shut temporarily. There's also a Wheatsheaf somewhere called Swinton.

Over Southwick way. I’m sure that was my area when I delivered the Sunderland Star. Morgan Street, Edward Birdis St, Coldstream Avenue and Hahnnemann Court

It's written on all the 20 mph signs over there as I always used to wonder what it meant.
Cafe Maelmin does a decent breakfast. Used to stop there on my way up to Edinburgh if I had meetings.

If you go 20 mins further north the Allanton Inn at Allanton & the Waterloo Arms at Chirnside were both decent

Restaurant with rooms is the Wheatsheaf at Swindon.. stayed 3 or 4 times and was good but couldn't imagine just going for a pint.
The Fisherman's Arms at Birgham was a good pub, community owned
