Construction Estimating

I need to learn the basics of estimating for a project at work. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good place to find the basics, book, website whatever?
I was hoping there would be a dummies guide to but it must be the only topic that there isn't one for!

Sorry, my initial response was brief, I was on my phone.

Spons Price book is an annual publication which contains reasonably accurate costs for the vast majority of construction activities.

You take a measure of work from drawings or specifications, then reference the corresponding activity in the book which then provides you with materials cost/ labour time and cost etc. for that task.

What it does not do is provide insights to down-time inefficiencies, programme scheduling etc which invariably affect actual costs. However, a large proportions of construction estimating is produced using this resource (Like what I did there?).
